"100 Round The Bends" as written by and Melissa Morrison Higgins....
I've follow complications like a bloodhound
So pick me up, twist me round
And throw me all the way back down

'Cause I found my feet connected to the ceiling
And hanging upside down, a smile's a frown
It's all too easy on the ground

So, jump in my car, we'll go a hundred round the bends
We'll take this road until we're back and start it again
Jump in my car, we'll go a hundred round the bends
And we'll pretend, feeling rage is feeling real
Feeling rage is feeling real

So, I've got a brand new rubber band for you, boy
Go on give it a stretch
I can see your itching too, frustrations on the boil

But then I see my damn reflection in your eyeball
And I want nothing more to do
With all the things you made me think I am

So, jump in my car, we'll go a hundred round the bends
We'll take this road until we're back and start it again
Jump in my car, we'll go a hundred round the bends
And we'll pretend, feeling rage is feeling real
Feeling rage is feeling real

You were everything for a little while
But I broke it, I broke it, I broke it, I broke it, didn't I
Oh, you were everything for a little while
But I broke it, I broke it, I broke it, I broke it, didn't I
Oh, didn't I, ohh

So, jump in my car, we'll go a hundred round the bends
We'll take this road until we're back and start it again, oh
Jump in my car, we'll go a hundred round the bends
And we'll pretend, feeling rage is feeling real
Feeling rage is feeling real, feeling rage ain't feeling real

General Commenti think the first line may be "i follow complications like a bloodhound"...
and instead of "but when i jumped down, theres smiles around" it's "when hanging upside down, a smile's a frown"
and instead of "were back and started again" i think it's "we're back at the start yet again"
"to/two frustrations" instead of "for frustrations"
"all these things you made me think i am" instead of "feel i am"

i could be wrong, but thought i'd mention it... :s

    General Commentwhen she breaks into

"You were everything, for a little while,
but i broke it, i broke it, i broke it, i broke it, didnt I"

was not expecting that in this song, so emotional...amazing. i love it

General Commentthanks hkbm for noting that- I almost cried when I read the mistakes!

I think this is a bout a relationship that is almost at its closure. She's fucked it up, and she's frustrated, angry with herself. I think it talks about throwing caution to the wind or possibly giving up, not caring anymore, maybe cuz nothing else matters anymore cuz she 'broke it'. Hmmm...what do others think?

General CommentOnly five comments? Wow. This song rocks. I don't think she's angry with herself. I think she's happy with her decision to walk away ("I want nothing more to do with all the things you made me think I am."). And the way she sings "didn't I" is almost like she's proud of her decision. I *do* agree that she's describing
'throwing caution to the wind', but she suggests doing this with the other person involved who hurt her because she's angry and doesn't care what might happen to them. This song following "Where I Stood" on the album only confirms my suspicion that she might be talking about some type of abusive relationship that was hard to walk away from.. doubted herself in the beginning.. but "learned to trust herself" in the end because she made the right decision. I don't know.. may be a stretch..

General Commentand another lyric correction I think is important: "go on and give it a stretch" -- not "don't wanna give it a stretch"

General CommentI saw her in concert with Ben Folds a few months ago, she's phenomenal. I love love love this song.
She said at the concert if anyone had a habit of being in really crappy relationships, and that this song was for them
    I love love love it

My InterpretationI think this song is about a girl who has been in a relationship for a while and they're bored, they make each other angry, and most of all fight just to keep things interesting.

"I follow complications like a bloodhound" - instigating

"When hanging upside down your smile's a frown, its all too easy on the ground" - things are too boring and cliche when they aren't in some sort of conflict

"Jump in my car we'll go 100 round the bends" - tumultuous..fighting

"We'll take this road til we're back at the start again" - they fight all of the time

"We'll pretend that rage is feeling real" - They need excitement so they fight to feel "real"

"So I've got a brand new rubber band for you boy, Go on and give it a stretch, I can see you're itching to, Frustrations on the boil" - he's got a new fight to pick with something she did

My Interpretationi think this song is about making things more complicated than they need to be - this then causes problems and anger - "feeling rage is feeling real", so she's trying to convince herself that shes right in the decisions shes made and that trouble she's caused, even if she doesn't feel its completely her fault. Shes still mad, so she gets in the car to cool off. (Call me crazy, but I get the feeling she takes her dog, "I see my damn reflection in your eyeball" & "I've got a brand new rubber band for you boy". To me, it seems like shes going back and forth from talking about the other person in the relationship that is causing her so much pain as well as addressing her dog) By the end of the song, she hasn't cooled off much, but she's realized that "feeling rage isn't feeling real" and she either needs to fix the relationship or get out. Just some thoughts :)
