"Born Losers" as written by and Matthew Good....
Well there ain't nothing to this but your daughter
And the life you would not give her break your plans
Traipsed across the continent a squatter
For your lies at night to sleep between my hands

When the lights come on this whole place gets ugly
But when they're out strangers fall in love
She could never say that flat out she don't want me
Cause I could never say that half way ain't enough

New Order's on the turn table we're dancing
Cause what else do you do when you don't talk?
Crucified to crawl into your mansion
Ya, that's why I learned to crawl before I walked

We're back where we belong
Straight back where we belong
No days for nights, no cocaine cons
Just back where we belong

Take me out back to your piranhas
And beat me until I can't even stand
Your whole life a plane without no landing gear
So if this is it then come on let me land

That trailer trash pedigree is calling
It rats you out when you're down on all fours
Me I like to cast my death on yesterday
Cause what doesn't kill us now just makes us better whores

We're back where we belong
Straight back where we belong
No days for nights, no cocaine cons
Just back where we belong

Go put it in the ground
Go bury it some place it can't be found
Go put it in the ground

Well there ain't nothing to this but your daughter
And the life you would not give her break your plans
Traipsed across the continent a squatter
For your lies at night to sleep between my hands

General Commentthe miscarriage story is legit. his wife had a miscarriage right near the expectancy day. and since matt is so mental, that must have wrecked him. the miscarriage is one of the main reasons the marriage didn't last, and that he eventually ODed. luckily, he survived. This song is definitely a solid FUCK YOU to his ex-wife, but most of it is about how the miscarriage wrecked their marriage. review lines like "there ain't nothin to this but your daughter", "Your whole life, a plane without no landing gear
So if this is it, then come on let me land", and "Go put it in the ground
Go bury it somewhere it can't be found
Go put it in the ground" and think about the heavy symbolism there in regards to his unborn child. also, the title "born losers" is a dead give away. bottom line though, MG is pure brilliance

General CommentThis is such an amazing song. I am not sure what it means though. I love all of Matt Good but he does stump me sometimes. My favourite lines are :

"Your whole life, a plane without no landing gear
So if this is it, then come on let me land"

    Love it, pure genious.

General CommentAwesome song by Matt, definately one of his best in my opinion.

Just wish I knew what the line "For your lies at night to sleep between my hands." means.

Anybody got any interpretations or ideas?

General Commenti think that "for your lies at night to sleep between my hands," means that it was somebody who lied to him, just so she could sleep with him, or at least next to him.

General Commentreminds me of MGB back with strange days when he starts the chours it reminds me of strange days, this is prolly one of the only artists that are in the genre that can say

    'what dont kill us
    make us better whores'

i mean that right there is a clasic line, im deff gonna pick up the new CD... deff a good artist to listen to anytime of the day. and anyplace.

General CommentThe first time I heard this song, the first few lines reminded me of 'Jenni's song' by MGB.

Just a though.. otherwise I dunno what it could be about.

General CommentWell, from reading Matt's mini life story on his website and seeing the pictures he drew in the hospital after a pseudo-purposeful overdose of pills....you can match the lyrics up easily. I think a lot of it is extremely purposeful. The most important part, I'd say, is the first three lines or so. It really gives an idea of what the song is about.

General CommentI think the whole song's about his relationship with his ex-wife, as is most of his new record. I think "Born Losers" means both of them, her for being some gold digging party girl and him for putting up with it for so long. I love the lines:

"She could never say that flat out she don't want me
'Cause I could never say that halfway ain't enough"

scuh a brilliant way to describe a relationship that's only half way there, and as long as he was willing to put up with it she was never going to leave.

I'd also liek to think when he says

"Go put it in the ground
Go bury it somewhere it can't be found"

he's refering to the ring he gave her, you know matt's such a hopeless romantic/idealist that he probably actually bury a ring worth thousands just for the symbollism involved.

    anyway great song, great album.
