"Forever Song" as written by and Joshua Jon Pyke....
We sleep together,
While all around us,
People kill each other where they lie.
They lie together,
Till they find someone better,
Try to negotiate that slow demise.

But I just can't credit,
That type of effort for a,
Piece of nothing on the edge of a knife.
Slices you so thin,
You dry like sheets in the wind,
Hold a candle behind through you see the light.

I want the song I can sing forever,
I don't care for structure,
Just to know it's mine.
I'd hate to see,
This thing we've developed,
Become your burden or my waste of time.
(My waste of time)

The afternoon can bring with it shallow moods,
But I'd jump a harbour wall to clear your mind.
I quarter the years,
You drop the sails till we're clear,
I'll look for reefs,
You map the stars in the night.

And history tells us of worlds we'll know nothing of,
Then retrospect becomes a shackle tight,
On the ankles of us,
Oh, in the future we trust,
We cross our fingers like some kids telling lies.

I want the song I can sing forever,
I don't care for structure,
Just to know it's mine.
I'd hate to see,
This thing we've developed,
Become your burden or my waste of time.

I wanna know that I know what I'm talking about.
Until I do,
All the walls seem white.
But when I'm sure that I know what I'm talking about,
I'll take your burden if you say it's mine.
If you say it's mine.
If you say it's mine.
If you say it's mine.

General CommentSuch a lovely song. To me the first two verses are about genuinely being in love with someone and not caring about other people who are just looking for the next person to sleep with lol. The chorus to me is about hoping the relationship lasts forever and that the people involved don't get over it. And pretty much the rest of the song I reckon is about what the future holds for these people.

General Commenti love josh pyke. this song is awesome.
i reckon hes just looking at a new relationship which he is enjoying being in and wants to work out, talking about how he wouldnt really bother if he didnt feel like it was going to work.
He pretty much sums it up with the fact that hes willing to put the work in if the other person is.
a beatiful song. he has such a great perspective through all his music.

General Commenti don't know that he's talking about just a relationship all the way through this.

the bit about jumping harbour walls and that bit is definetely about a love, something to keep safe as part of the future.

but i see the song as a whole a lot more about the future in general. trying to do something worthy and important with our lives. i think he's also worrying a bit about how he's or we're living at the moment:

    "I'd hate to see,
    This thing we've developed,
Become your burden or my waste of time"

i adore this song ^-^ all of josh pyke's work is lyrically masterful and beautifully melodic. mmm :)

General CommentMy favorite right now! I love his lyrics, especially

    "But I just can't credit,
That type of effort for a,
Piece of nothing on the edge of a knife."

and "I wanna know that I know what I'm talking about."

    So great!

General CommentI believe this song is about love and relationships...
About how lots of people search through the 'sea' of partners who aren't for them and just date and sleep around and some people enjoy that - he doesn't, He is in love and happy and content just being with the one person because he can trust them and feel safe and confortable...
"I want the song I can sing forever" - to me he is saying he wants to be with the same person and be happy and in love with them forever, doesn't want to 'sing a different song' only sing there song... and the "I don't care for structure just to know its mine" - I think he is saying you don't need to be married or or have the relationship defined by anyone else, because as long as he believes in love, and that person loves him back - thats all that matters.
"Id hate to see this thing we've developed become your burden or my waste of time" I think refers to the fact that he won't give up and let the relationship become a burden or a waste, because they are meant to be, and 'struture' (ie. marriage) can put unfair pressures on you you and make you feel like you have to stay, instead of being reminded why you want to stay, and how the other person is something worth fighting for, not the struture worth fighting against.
"in the future we trust, We cross our fingers like some kids telling lies." - You don't know for sure what the future holds with relationships, someone who is the love of your life today may turn out to be someone else tomorrow... but to be happy in love, you have to put aside your fears and 'trust in the future' that its going to be okay, and cross your fingers, hold on tight for the ride and have faith it'll all be okay.
