Well
Well
Well
Well

We spun like birds on fire right down towards the residence and I
I took all that I desired, even crooks have to pay the rent
We swam like rats on fire right, right down the reservoir
We took all that we could carry but we tried to carry more

And you know you know you know it all went wrong
And you know you know you know it was all wrong

We choked on straight tap water well I'm gonna have to try the real thing
I took your laugh by the collar and it knew not to swing
Anytime I tried an honest job well the till had a hole in it ha-ha
We laughed about payin' rent 'cause the county jails they're free

And you know you know you know it all went wrong
And you know you know you know it was all wrong

Deep water, deep water
Senseless denial
I went down like a rag doll rage of a child
Deep water, deep water
Senseless denial
I went down like a rag doll wrath of a child

Oh, lucky lucky lucky lucky me again.
I said it looks like I've got to use my feet again
Well I just spent my last one-hundred dollars
God I'll pay my bail again

Oh, I don't care
Oh, how I just don't care

Deep water, deep water
Senseless denial
I went down like a rag doll shooken and shy
Deep water, deep water
Senseless denial
I went down like a rag doll rat of a child

Well King rat has me on his list again
I can never be on the fence again
I found out his old mouth
Opened like an organ and he
Talk, talk, talk, talked to them
He promised me that when I cheated him
But I could open my eye well

Lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky,
Lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky me again

Deep water, deep water
This senseless denial
I got fed like a fish, full of open smiles
Blue water, deep water
Oh senseless denial
I got fed like a fish on the cardboard smiles

Well well
What do you have to say for yourself?
I said, well well
Well?
I said well, well, well, well

Lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky me again
I hardly knew I should use my feet again
What do you have to say for yourself?
What do you have to say for yourself?

This song would have been the best on the "We Were Dead" album if the assholes at Epic didn't make them cut it. Do you know why that is? Because the assholes at Epic don't like for you to hear a song that's about how it's so crazy that we're imprisoned by our insane obsession to own possessions even though we could live like animals, own nothing, and be perfectly at peace.

I wonder how many other great songs we'll never hear because of those assholes at epic.

obviously i'm still unsure about some of the lyrics. maybe someone else can shed some light on it, but that's the closest i can get.

These lyrics aren't very accurate. Someone fix them.

    "choked on straight tap water"

    "heavy with child"

    "I'll pay my bail again"

    Song Meaning

Ok a lot of you are taking this the wrong way. Watch, read, and listen to Issacs interviews. He's been in jail, an alchoholic, drugs, fights. A dirt life.

Think of a city rat. Always going through what other people cause waste. Causing trouble, and having fun with it.

I think this follows the theme of growing up. Issac was (and still probably is) a rough around the edges guy. The line "county jails are free." was talking about not minding the trouble they were getting in. Everything in the persons life is a mess, and going down hill. In flames. Yet, still lssac laughs and is energetic.

The "lucky lucky me" obviously sarcastic. He knows that it's not amounting to anything and he would have to work his way up from where he is if he wants to reach his own standard of happiness.

Also, please remember this song and most of these songs were written a while ago. You can't look for the meaning of it by lookig at them today

The language of the piece seems almost Dickensian, which indicates the subject would be either gangsters of the mid-1800s to possibly as late as the 1930s, or the almost mercenarily amoral sailors (even those associated with non-privateer navy or trade fleets) of the early end of that period.

    Lyric Correction

Third stanza, the first line, "We choked on street tap water" should prolly be "We choked on straight tap water". It's one of my favorite lines in this song, so I hope it's right.

I posted lyrics for this but I guess you beat me to it. damn. I think its "well I took your laugh by the carton" instead of "I took your [?] by the car car" and I think at the end its "why do you have to settle for your self". maybe not though good job. I dont understand why this wasnt there single this song doesnt suck its wierd. I dont think johnny marr had anything to do with it.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
