Well, you say that I treat you like a book on a shelf
I don't take you out that often because I know that I completed you
And that's why you are here
That's the reason you stay here
How awful that must feel

You said you would be my dream, I could have you every night
And if by morning I'd forgotten you, well, no big deal, that'd be all right
Because you're the reoccurring kind
You are the reoccurring kind
You never really leave my mind

Are you the love of my lifetime?
Because there have been times I've had my doubts
We were just kids when I first kissed you in the attic of my parents house
And I wish we were there now
It took so long to figure out
What this book has been about

Now I write when I'm away, letters that you'll never read
You said go explore those other women, the geography of their bodies
But there's just one map you'll need
You're a boomerang you'll see
You will return to me

You will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will.
You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. You, you will.

Because if you don't, then this book is all lies
If you don't, then my plans would all be ruined
If you don't, I'll start drinking like the way I drank before
Oh, and I, I just won't have a future anymore

General CommentI disagree, i've listened to the original and Conor Oberest is totally tuneless.

    I prefer snow patrol's cover

General CommentDoes snow patrol have a studio version of this?
'Cause I've only seen live videos on YouTube, and it may have been the video quality, but I thought they were terrible.

I do agree about Conor being tuneless, though.

General CommentI really like this song. It reminds me of The Stinky Cheese Man book. I really don't know why. Anyway, this song just makes me think of being young and in love. Clearly, this guy is a piner. The girl is kind of a free spirit and the guy likes when she comes around for the... ya know... but there's more to it I think. I like the book references... I don't know about anyone else but I baby the hell out of my books. It reminds me a little bit of the book Owen Meany, playing around in the attic and such.

I saw gary singing it on youtube and he is SMILING he is actually smiling and happily singing it haha
i'm not even one of these poeple who go crazy anytime anyone covers bright eyes becuase i've heard some relly good ones, but this is awful, trully.
i think they missed to point and the feeling of the song completly!

General Commenti think conor's voice has more truth in it and he makes you feel the lyrics. maybe that's because it's his original. also i don't like the countrified sound of snow patrol's version

General Commentpeople obviously don't appreciate bright eyes enough if they think conor is tuneless.
it makes me happy that snow patrol obviously listen to bright eyes, two of the best bands around
the studio version (thankyou for that link by the way) is way better than when they do it live, sounds much better and I'm actually surprised how well they've covered it.
still, can't really beat bright eyes at his own songs.

My Opinioni think the lyrics are genius, and as poetic as they can get! but i also think that gary sings it WELL, and though he didn't top the original, he did a damn good job at it.
