I've seen the way you look at me
I've seen you waiting patiently
I'm fine... well, I lied

If what we are is feeling low
I'd fear this if I had a soul
But you're still mine

I was afraid of being chained
I thought a woman who could mend and bend
Would learn my deepest depths and thoughts

And it's just one more round, one more
One more round and I'm done

But you need assurance that everything's gonna be fine
Coz you're just a woman who's everything good in my life
And though we've been over, weeping over
Our last goodbyes
Well I learned to live with these fatal gifts
And still you're mine
So I'm yours

And so I wrote you this song
But you won't sing along to me
Sing la dan da do da la dai-ee-i-ee-ay
La dan da do da la dai-ee-i-ee-ay-ee-ay-ee-ayay

The memories that used to be
Are carved into a sweet gum tree
Outside my place
Where I touched your face
And it was..

One more round, one more
One more round, than I'd loved.

So you need assurance that everything's gonna be fine
Coz you're just the woman who's everything good in my life
And though we've been over, weeping over
Our last goodbyes
I've learned to live with these fatal gifts
And still your mine
So I...

So I wrote you this song
But you won't sing along to me
To sing la dan da do da la dai-ee-i-ee-ay
La dan da do da la dai-ee-i-ee-ay-ee-ay-ee-ayay

General CommentIt sounds like the love of his life died.... but he's remembering everything they did when she was alive. He's saying he won't stop loving her even though she is dead.

General Commenti think it means that they broke up, but she's asking him if she will be ok. and he pretends he will, even tho he wont, because she is everything good in his life.

General CommentI agree with MSTRBD, i just picture him and a girl either on the phone or in person, and she tells him she doesn't want to be with him (or some other bad news about their relationship, maybe cheating?) and he just takes this long pause...then she asks if he's ok, and during that pause his heartbreaks and the only thing he can say is that he's fine. Then he goes and thinks about in the beginning he was afraid of falling in love because of all the pain that comes with it

General Commentthe song is obviously directed toward a woman, but they aren't broken up. he says "though we've been over, weeping over Our last goodbyes
Well I learned to live with these fatal gifts
And still you're mine" it sounds like him and the woman he loves are having trouble because of his music. he says "and you need assurance that everything's gonna be fine... And so I wrote you this song But you won't sing along to me" if you really listen to the last four tracks on this album, they seem to have similar themes, starting with this song

General CommentI feel like the woman has left him or is leaving him. Mostly where he says 'you won't sing along with me', kind of like he had a song...the song of his life that he wanted her to sing with him, and she wasn't there anymore to make the song of his life with him.
Also some credence to her being dead and he still loves her, though it seems like too many of his songs can be interpreted as a lover dying.

General Commentwhere does this say "break-up" or is leaving him? I think the man is talking about a volatile relationship that possibly has ended but the ending had always occured. Like he said its always "one more round," and I suppose this is what the man always enjoyed about their love. Whether they were together or seperate he also belonged to her and she always belonged to him They've said their last goodbyes, numerous times. Look at the shift in tenses when he sings about writing the song. The way he says that she wont sing along anymore, I feel as if she's died and hasn't decided to just leave. I love this song probably the most out of all the songs I've heard thusfar from Vol. II.

General CommentDid any of you notice that the line "I touched your face" is repeated in Abuse of SID? Maybe it's the same woman... after she got rid of the crappy man that beat her...

And does anyone know the woman singing at the end of this song. She has a pretty voice

    General CommentPretty sure the lyrics go;

I was afraid of being chained
I found a woman who could mend and bend
All of my deepest insights and thoughts

    And the last bit says

So I wrote you this song
But you're not here to sing along with me
