In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
I think: the beginning starts off talking about seeing "a moment of sun in her eye and everything was quiet" this to me means the time you realize you're in love with that person, where everything stands still and its just the both of you there.
When he says, "In the garden of love i saw starlight sigh and shadow move" he's seeing things that he couldn't see before her, she's given him new eyes to see the world with. And "faltering, no faltering, faltering" they're beginning to go through difficult times in their relationship its shaky, on and off, and then it finally just falls apart.
"Before you go, a few words for your heart before you turn, something to ponder in your heart as you go" he's telling her to remember all the times they shared.

in this verse the "Stepping out into the light other side of the window blinking and blind in the light other side of the window falter, no faltering now other side of the window falter, no faltering now that journey is over over over" he's moved on and is on the other side of the window. He can look back and gain perspective about what happened that made everything go south.
"There's only so much that our heart can grow then everything else starts to overflow and you're young and in love back then there was no way of knowing" here he says that you can only love a person so much before you began to lose everything else in the relationship, that it needs more than love. but that when you're young and inexperienced in love you cant expect what will become of it
"So we pushed and we pulled with our nerves of steel you had the pedals and I had the wheel and the terrible truth was we never knew where we were going" that when they were in the relationship they didn't know where they would eventually end up, they were just along for the ride

but then again this could be a totally wrong interpretation of this amazingly tragic song. Nevertheless its is a song that contains tons of emotion within the beats and rhythms alone. whatever your interpretation of this song might be its still very lovely to listen to.
