"Brand New Key" as written by and Melanie Safka....
I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I roller skated to your door at day light
It almost seems like you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone, but you got something I need

Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out, you see
I been looking around awhile, you got something for me
Oh, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

I ride my bike, I roller skate, don't drive no car
Don't go too fast, but I go pretty far
For somebody who don't drive I been all round the world
Some people think I done all right for a girl

Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out, you see
I been looking around awhile, you got something for me
Oh, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

I asked your mother if you were at home
She said "Yes" but you weren't alone
Well, sometimes I think that you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone, but you got something I need

Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out, you see
I been looking around awhile, you got something for me
Oh, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
Oh, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
Oh, I got a brand new pair of roller skates

General CommentIt's a cover of Melanie's song Brand New Key, a hit around 1971-1972.

The song is talking about quad skates, which are fastened by a screw. The key that is talked about is possibly the screw to adjust the skates.

This could be seen as an innuendo, the key in a lock symbolizing sexual intercourse.

General Comment^ Ha ha ha. I knew that I'd heard this song before. It's ridiculously catchy, though; I could see why they'd cover it.

And yes, I'm inclined to argue that it's all one big sexual metaphor. Especially with the 'I think we should get together/ And try them out you see' and the 'going pretty far for a girl' bits.

General CommentThis song makes me laugh.
They play it at my work all the time & we always make fun of it because it's so annoying & none of us have any idea what she's talking about...

But we all still like it.
