"Die, Die, Die" as written by and Robert William Crawford Timothy Seth Avett....
She's fighting with the sky
She thinks she can
Livin' within a lie
She thinks she can
But nobody knows what lies behind
The days before the day we die
Die, die, die, die, die, die, die
Die, die, die, die, die, die, die
Die, die, die

She puts her hands against
The life she had
Living with ignorance
Blissful and sad
But nobody knows what lies behind
The days before the day we die
Die, die, die, die, die, die, die
Die, die, die, die, die, die, die
Die, die, die

You can try to swim the sea
But say goodbye to you and me
You can try to swim the sea
You can try to hold the breeze
You can try to hide the sun
But say goodbye to everyone
Die, die, die, die, die, die, die
Die, die, die, die, die, die, die
Die, die, die

General CommentI agree with the romantic aspect that skyturnstofire was talking about,
but I can also see how its about a girl that has denied reality, because she did not like it, and she has created her own.
    "She puts her hands against
    The life she had
    Living with ignorance"
Which proves she has created a new reality.
But you can not live within reality, when you have created your own. It simply doesn't work that way. It could be other people trying to stop you, like the narrator of the song, or it could be the sea, the breeze, or the sun (which could be metaphors for something else), either way what is real will fight against what is fake.
"But say goodbye to you and me... die, die, die, die, die, die, die, etc..."
In literal terms, this could mean that reality is planning to get rid of whats not real, which could end in her death. But this could mean that when you create a new reality, you deny people, including people that you love. Thus, creating a lonely situation, which could be compared to death.
or that her new reality is about to die, because there can't be two realities.

General CommentThis song is so pleasant and enjoyable. I like that effect played against the lyrics "die die die."

General CommentOne of my favorite Avett Bros songs. It can relate to so many different things, but I think it's about a girl 'testing her wings' so to speak.

    She's fighting with the sky...

She wants to be on her own and find out what's out there before she, well, dies.

I think that the bridge is perhaps from the point of view of a guy she's leaving behind.

"You can try to swim the sea" relating to she's looking for other 'fish in the sea' and other people.

"But say goodbye to you and me." He won't be waiting for her when she gets back.
