"Bitter Wine" as written by and Suzi Gardner....
I'll drink bitter wine
I'll eat humble pie
I'll do all this
For some peace
I'll do all this for peace of mind

Can we trust each other
I'm not your keeper
No farewell sister
Try to have savoir-faire
Pretend like I just don't care
You'll do all this just to get high
I'll do all this to just get by

My InterpretationI could be way off the intended mark here, but what I take from it is two people, using, who care for each other greatly. And each one is relying on the other to catch her when she moves over the mark from messing around to addict.
But they're both descending at the same rate, and neither is reliable to say when things have got bad.
