Give me strength to face the truth, the doubt within my soul
No longer I can justify the bloodshed in His name
Is it a sin to seek the truth, the truth beneath the rose?
Pray with me so I will find the gate to Heaven's door

I believe it would justify the means
It had a hold over me
Blinded to see the cruelty of the beast
It is the darker side of me (forgive me my sins)
The veil of my dreams deceived that I have seen
Forgive me for what I have been
Forgive me my sins!

Pray for me 'cause I have lost my faith in holy wars
Is paradise denied to me 'cause I can't take no more?
Has darkness taken over me, consumed my mortal soul?
All my virtues sacrificed, can Heaven be so cruel?

I believe it would justify the means
It had a hold over me (forgive me my sins)
Blinded to see the cruelty of the beast
It is the darker side of me (forgive me my sins)
The veil of my dreams deceived that I have seen
Forgive me for what I have been
Forgive me my sins!

I'm hoping, I'm praying, I won't get lost between two worlds
For all I have seen the truth lies in between
Give me the strength to face the wrong that I have done
Now that I know the darkest side of me

How can blood be our salvation
And justify the pain that we have caused throughout the times
Will I learn what's truly sacred?
Will I redeem my soul, will truth set me free?

(Forgive me my sins) blinded to see the cruelty of the beast
It is the darker side of me (forgive me my sins)
The veil of my dreams deceived that I have seen
Forgive me for what I have been
Forgive me my sins!

I think this song is also, more generally speaking, about reawakening of consciousness after any blind following of faith - not necessarily religious faith. I believe also that the referral to the Da Vinci Code it is really in the meaning: an event, a thought, a discovery that makes all our previous beliefs crumble like a sand castle, so that we can see how biased were our opinions and how the truth lies in between, as the song says. It is the main point of the whole album; as in the leading song, in The Truth Beneath The Rose I read another "Open up your eyes".

Probably my favorite song ever. It is inspired and intense, and sung in a exceptional way. This song has the best lyrics I have ever read.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
