"Don't Give Up" as written by Ayak Thiik and Mark Smith....
Sometimes they'll want to cut you down
Betta scratch that itch cos the time is now
They tell you that you gotta have a heart of steel
If you want to keep up can you afford to feel?

When the system's wrong you gotta tear it down
let it fall to the sea bed like a rusty crown
To the stars in the moonbeams glare
Shackles on your feet gonna disappear

What if I tried to tell you to do what for?
Can't you see baby life's knocking right at your door
Ooh I just don't know for sure.
What if I tried to tell you to do what for?

Don't give up don't give up
Don't give up don't give up
Don't give up don't give up
Don't give up don't give up

She's got a talented face and a suitcase
Ain't got no desire to go no place
In her case she's got no desire
with her hand in the flame say's she don't feel the fire
To the 'yes' in the evenings air demons
in your head got to disappear
To the stars under the moon means glare
The Shackles on your meat will disappear

What if I tried to tell you to do what for?
Can't you see baby life's knocking right at your door
She said, "Ooh I just don't know for sure"
What if I tried to tell you to do what for?

General CommentThis song is loud even if you have the sound on low.
    Intricate lyrics and vocals.

General CommentThis song is about doing something even though people are telling you not to "sometimes they'll wanna cut you down ... If you want to keep up, can you afford to feel? [their criticisms, their attempts at dissuasion]." It's also about when you don't have the willpower to act--"ain't got no desire to go no place." "hand in the flame but she don't feel the fire"--it's time to act, but she can't motivate herself to do it.

Basically, "Don't Give Up" is exactly what it's about. I don't get the "what if I tried to tell you to do what for?" part. Are those the correct lyrics? She kind of slurs them every time (probably because of her British accent).

Great song from one of the best new bands to watch--they defy the multitude of comparisons applied to them. Original and important. Can't wait for the next album.

General CommentThis song, like the best of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, makes me twitchy in a good way. Meaning's Manifest.

General CommentWell, the meaning is obvious but I wish Noisettes wrote more songs like this one! It's my favourite!
