"Boxing Champ" as written by Nicholas Hodgson, Charles Richard Wilson, Nicholas Baines, James Rix and Andrew Robert White....
We went to the youth club
And we looked out of place
I didn't know where to look
So I looked at your face

But you were a boxing champ
And I was a weakling
You didn't give me a chance
You gave me a beating
And I thank you very much that you did

And as the time went by
We stayed out of trouble
Before I could realize
My age had doubled

The man I became is a tragic bore
And he's not a boxing champ anymore
If there's one thing I've learned, it's to run away
At least I enjoy what I do today
And I thank you very much that I do

General CommentI'm guessing this is about someone who bullied him when he was younger, and so he "stayed out of trouble" meaning now he has achieved something with his life whereas the bully is now nothing.

General CommentWho is singing this? Because I know it's not Ricky. Maybe it's Nick or something. Possibly. Beautiful song though.

General Commentboxing champ tells of an incident at a youth club in Otley when Nick Hodgson fled a potential beating, leaving Simon Rix to suffer the consequences. Simon Rix was with a girl in a corner, Nick Hodgson ran off, but later Simon Rix got beaten up by the gang that Nick had escaped from.

General Commentin an interview thing, nick said that he wrote this song because his girlfriend was in a library and a man kept shouting "boxing champ" so she told nick to write a song with that title, and it is about one of the band getting beat up too, i can't remember who it was though, possibly simon.

General CommentRegardless of what the song is about, i relate it to a relationship. The person that he looks at when he says i didnt know where to look so i looked at your face, is his girlfriend or girl/friend.

General CommentI always thought it was just about the hierarchy of being young

My InterpretationAlways thought it's about two totally different people meeting each other when they were young. One of them the weakling, the other is the Boxing Champ. They contemplate about how they were now and then.

The first verse is the weakling talking about himself when he was young, the second verse about the boxing champ when i becomes old.
