"Alley Cat" as written by and Nathan Henry Dan Koch....
Oh I've been going through a hell of a time
Making sense of all that you left behind
When I arrange it into columns and lines
I always think it's adding up, but it never does
So in the morning maybe I'll be alright
And through the day I'll prepare for the fight
With a fever on a Saturday night
Cause this is giving me the shakes and butterflies, oh

And if you don't stop running you can never breathe
When everything you want is everything you see
But when it comes to decision baby, him or me
Well I hope you can feel the need

What made you an alley cat scratching me?
You dig deep with your nails and flash your teeth
And run off to where your next big meal could be
What made you an alley cat scratching me?
You dig deep with your nails and flash your teeth
And run off because you must be tired of me
Run off because you must be tired of me

And there's a scene I will always replay
At the moment when my hand touched your face
I could see your eyes turning away
But I've been standing my ground with you babe

And if you don't stop running you can never breathe
When everything you want is everything you see
But when it comes to decision baby, him or me
Well I hope you can feel the need

What made you an alley cat scratching me?
You dig deep with your nails and flash your teeth
And run off to where your next big meal could be
What made you an alley cat scratching me?
You dig deep with your nails and flash your teeth
And run off because you must be tired of me
Run off because you must be tired of me

And now I fall in love with somebody everyday
As they step aside when I'm walking by, or smile at something I say
But I promised you it would never get in the way
Of stability but the joke's on me
Cause you were the one who got carried away
Oh, you got carried away
Well he carried you away, oh
Carried you away, oh
Carried you away
Carried you away

General CommentWhen I first heard this song I couldn't stop listening to it.

The meaning seems really clear to me though.
Because I'm pretty sure I was in the situation.

I'm pretty sure it's about a relationship about a girl and a guy.
But even if the girl was in a relationship, she would still flirt around with other people.
And she would switch around between her actual boyfriend and the other guy she wasn't fully dedicated to.

"And if you don't stop running you can never breath.
When everything you want is everything you see.
And when it comes to decision, baby, him or me ?
Well I hope you can fill the need."

Then finally in the and she left him for the other guy.
But she had feelings for both of them at the same time, which didn't work out.
    It never does.

General Commentthis song reminds me of Postal Service the way it sounds...seems like the simple concept of a guy who was devoted to a girl yet she "got tired" of him and ended up with another guy..

General CommentI definitely get a Postal Service feel from the beginning of it.

I think it's about a girl acting like a relationship is true and letting the guy believe it works, but then up and leaving him for another guy.
And then at the end, he kind of turns into her.

"And now I fall in love with somebody everyday"

Meaning since she suddenly left him for someone she thought she loved more, now she has scarred him and has made him throw around the word "love" just as casually as she did.

General CommentMaybe that's his way of coping with his loss... he calls her a whore because she ran away from him and hooked up with another guy.

Interestingly enough, I thought death cab for cutie when I first heard it. Guess I'm the odd man out. But I'll agree - it does have more of the beat of a song by the postal service.

General Comment"And now I fall in love with somebody everyday
As they step aside when I'm walking by, or smile at something I say" this is so much me I jumped when I first heard it. Yes, similar to both Postal Service & Death cab For Cutie, both good bands.

General CommentIt's a about a guy who loves and is loved by a lot of people, but he's with this special person that he loves more than anyone. He tells them that "I fall in love with somebody everyday" but promises that they would "never get in the way" of their relationship. And then his loved one betrays his trust and ends up cheating on him instead, running away with that mystery person and acting like an alley cat-no strings attached.

General Commentoh man, from listening to the song, i never really thought of it, but seeing the lyrics written here make it seem a whole lot more sexual than i perceived it as (:
"What made you an alley cat scratching me?
You dig deep with your nails and flash your teeth
And run off to where your next big meal could be
What made you an alley cat scratching me?
You dig deep with your nails and flash your teeth
And run off because you must be tired of me
Run off because you must be tired of me"

General Commentit's not as sexual sounding to me, but it definitely has tones of a girl cheating on her man..
she got carried away by someone else, leaving him behind..
