"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Nothing's ever changed, you still turn away
You've washed your hands, you've made that all too clear
You just keep on living this lie
You refuse to see, you're denying me
The cross I bear but you don't seem to care
Even Judas knew he had lied
I keep wondering why
I'm still calling your name through my tears
Why have you waited to embrace me my dear?
Cold is your silence, denying what is real
I'm still wondering why
I'm still calling your name my dear
I'm sorry if you can't stand the naked truth
All you see is how you want it to be
So you keep on living your life
Release me from this cross after all these years
Oh call my name and help me with this weight
Even though it comes far too late
I keep wondering why
I'm still calling your name through my tears
Why have you waited to embrace me my dear
Cold is your silence, denying what is real
I'm still wondering why I'm still calling your name
And I wonder, oh I wonder
In my heart I still hope you will open the door
You can purify it all, answer my call
Why? Why?
Why have you waited to embrace me my dear?
Cold is your silence, denying what is real
I'm still wondering why I'm still calling your name
And I wonder, oh I wonder
In my heart I still hope you will open the door
You can purify it all, answer my call
You've washed your hands, you've made that all too clear
You just keep on living this lie
You refuse to see, you're denying me
The cross I bear but you don't seem to care
Even Judas knew he had lied
I keep wondering why
I'm still calling your name through my tears
Why have you waited to embrace me my dear?
Cold is your silence, denying what is real
I'm still wondering why
I'm still calling your name my dear
I'm sorry if you can't stand the naked truth
All you see is how you want it to be
So you keep on living your life
Release me from this cross after all these years
Oh call my name and help me with this weight
Even though it comes far too late
I keep wondering why
I'm still calling your name through my tears
Why have you waited to embrace me my dear
Cold is your silence, denying what is real
I'm still wondering why I'm still calling your name

You can purify it all, answer my call

Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
Blue
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
I've heard alot of arguing over this song, some saying it's pro-religion/Christianity and is to balance out TTBTR and some it goes along with TTBTR as a warning against following a belief system set up by others. Personally I'm onclined to the more pro-religious part of that argument purely because that's the way the lyrics lead, but personally I think it's actually about a relatiionship or friendship in which one partner feels isolated by the other or betrayed and the religious references are just metaphors for the feelings of betrayel eg, the Judas reference and the 'In my heart I still hope you will open the door' bit.
But that's just my take, whatever anyone else thinks is good too.
I think the song is written fro the perspective of God or Jesus<br /> the part where it says "why have you waited so long to embrace me my dear" and "Release me from this cross after all these years<br /> Call my name and help me with this weight"<br /> i really think it's pro religion from the point of view of Jesus... =]
