reflections stinging eyelids, subduing social vision, threading hollow motives, and silence is the sound, throw this all away, remove these words past recognition, we purge belief from empty promises, throw this all away, burn down perfect pictures, distances tearing us apart, advertisement kills the heart. unveil this lie, good intentions cover plastic coated skin. flickering, pitter-pattering, up and in. was given, take these standards, built like buildings, tear them down, rebuild.

General CommentThe philosopher Plato came up with the "allegory of the cave" in his Republic. He was trying to explain how people could still think and speak even if they were unaware of his Theory of Forms.

Basically, there are prisoners who are chained to a cave wall for all their lives. Behind them, there is a walkway of puppeteers, and behind this walkway is a fire, and behind that, the entrance to the cave. All these prisoners know are the shadows that the fire casts and the echoes taht these puppeteers make. The object they see is a reality for them, but people of the outside world know that whatever these prisoners think is real is really only a shadow of reality.

This explains some lyrics in the song: unveil this lie, the flickering of the shadows on the cave wall, hollow motives, silence as sound, the prisoners acquiring belief from what is only an empty display. i'm not explaining this very well, but that's the gist of it.
