"Are You on My Side" as written by and Zachary David Schwartz....
I'm coming in close in a boat by the lake
I can't propose and I kept you awake
I've looked for your nose unless a mistake (?)
Has been don't matter (?)

Run through checkers and endless designs
Of run down papers and French concubines
Dorian Gray or a rat down the Rhine
Stupid panic

But are you on my side?

I hug the friends, it's just needles and pins
Cavalry's here they just won't let you in
They think that it's Greek when it's Pig Latin
A penned in firefight

But are you on my side?

Are you on my side?

I know you been around

General Commentthis song deserves a long comment:
i heard eyes on the movie just friends and fell in love with it. because of that movie i bought vultures and asleep at heavens on the same day. truth is and i am ashamed to say, i hated vultures except for publish my love and warmed to heavens first. lately however i listened to the entire songs on vultures and they get so much better. probably then half of what is on heavens. this song starts out questionable but it trully turns to low key masterpeice. in my opinion its about what happens when the girl "who could never publish his love" finally does and its not so good as he thought it would be. "i cant propose and i kept you awake" means he is uncertain they belong together however he cannot just let her go. it also sounds like they are preparing for a wedding. "are you on my side" is his way of saying... i love you now but what if we divorce? do we really need to wed? and everything is summed up when he says "they think that its greek but its pig latin"... a wedding would promote the idea that everything in their relationship is perfect but he knows it is not. "i know you been around" maybe she cheats and he knows?
so yeah i just wrote a long comment for a song no one cares about but i credit myself to love a band that is not as popular but is way better than the shins. if you dont like decended like vultures...it just requires patience.

General Commenti love rogue wave and this song is up there on my most listened to.. and i totally agree with everything ...said sadly just said. except i always liked descended like vultures and i just downloaded out of the shadow and im obsessed and i also have asleep at heaven's gate. the end of this song is amazing.. the instrumentals remind me of being carefree and just doing whatever you want.

General CommentThe guitar solo at the end is beautiful. Reminds me of white clouds in a black sky. One of my favorite Rogue Wave songs.

General CommentThe outro of this song was the hook for me. I couldn't stop listening, HAVEN'T stopped listening, to Rogue Wave since the first time I heard it five months ago!

I felt a kinship present between the composition style of RW and Pinback, another favorite, in this song particularly. They are by no means overtly similar bands but they are so unique and sometimes just downright mindblowingly novel that you just have to listen over and over because it's so ingenious and even strange at times that I don't think someone could really understand/access this amazing band without putting a lot of listening time in.

    Woots plural.

General CommentOne of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. From the instruments to the lyrics to the singer's voice, this song is just perfect. I think this song is also about a fear of commitment, and it's just explained so differently than all the other songs you hear these days. And then, the question that's keeping him from commitment or proposing: are you truely on my side?
