I'm like a paper cup with a pin prick.
You can fill me up, I'll only stay full for a while.
And wisdom's only shown me
that my loneliness is all my fault
And it's all my fault.
And I don't know what I have done wrong.

You say you understand me
Well I don't get you at all
And it seems everyone around me is
So good at faking it that I don't know
Just how to act around you

I'm like a paper bag, but the bottom's wet.
It must be something bleeding internally inside.
I didn't know the things that you never did
could stay with you your whole life.
And I don't know what I have done wrong.

You say you understand me
Well I don't get you at all
And it seems everyone around me is
So good at faking it that I don't know
Just how to act around you
And how to act about you

I've got a memory, but
I can't hear what you're saying.
You're looking straight at me, but
I'm looking the other way.

General CommentThis song feels like the whole downside of "ignorance is bliss". The author knows too much about himself (wisdom's only shown me that my loneliness is all my fault) and not enough about whom it is they love (I don't get you at all).
However, everyone seems to be assuring the author to just keep on the straight-and-narrow.
It seems that out of maybe youthful exuberence, lost the person from some inaction (I didn't know the things that you never did could stay with you your whole life) and regrets it.

General CommentThat's the best line "I didn't know the things you never did could stay with you your whole life"

    General CommentI agree with Kassichi.
That line, to me, means that he regrets the things he never did when he was younger (i.e. have fun and be free/live life to the fullest..?)

General CommentI think the author is deeply depressed and feels isolated from the people around him. He regrets that he has never been able to overcome his inability to reach out to people. The person he is singing to loves him but his inability to reach out to people keeps him from returning that love.

General Commentthe line "I didn't know the things you never did could stay with you your whole life"

mean that he didn't know that she could keep secrets and lies from him forever. he thought she would just open up and be honest with him. he is afraid to trust anyone or anything

"And it seems everyone around me is
So good at faking it that I don't know
Just how to act around you
And how to act about you"

he doesn't even know how to treat people because he doesn't know if there lying or being truthfull with him...

this is very ME right now... and i'm sure alot of other people feel this way as well

General CommentThis song is amazing, probably my favorite by DATH.

As for the song itself, it has this sort of melancholy feeling to it. I think the song's basically about regret & depression.

General Commenti really do love this song.

'hindsight is 20/20' thats very true, boomer38

i think this song is about a relationship he is/was in that he feels guilty about, and he knows it was all his fault. and the who paper cup/paper bag thing is about how he is happy for a little while, but it always fades...

im probably wrong, but thats how i see it.
