"Sunshine" as written by Wasalu Jaco and Rudolph Loyola Lopez....
Uh, Fresh to def she is
From her steps to the set she is
So "death" might not let me live
Ya dig
Fresh uh huh, yes she is
Had a feeling that it would be a day like this
The orchestra in my mind don't play like this (naw),
But I'm prepared for it
Got a lil rare for it
Brushed off my airs
Even cut my hair for it
'Cause normally I don't care for it
Don't even be looking for like, like that
Then there go it
Yea right over there so I prepare the poet
Lil scared my stair lowered
Momma said have no fear
Plus I'm already outta my chair
God love my airs on my square from here forward
It's nuthin right so here go it
Whisper in the air "its kinda crowded in here"
Would she care to blow it she said "yea"

You're my sunshine (you're my sunshine),
You're my moonlight (you're my moonlight),
You're the starry skies above me won't you please come down and hug me,
Think I found love in this club tonight (Wowowowo)

Never met her before
But I think I like her like a metaphor
It's hard to get
In the car we sit
From the intro
She rolled down her window
Just in case I was a schitzo

So I compliment her on the common sense
I'm calm
A lil more confident (Uh Huh)
And then we lose consciousness
She says "that I've been waiting for you"
And I know you been chasing me too
Since they kidnapped me from a castle
I been thinking of you
I told a fire breathing dragon "he bet not harm me" or he be sorry when he meets my one man army
And thou has come to rescue me
My knight in shining armor, yes you be
Woken up by the horn of an SUV
I said "see, too beautiful to let you sleep"

You're my sunshine (you're my sunshine),
You're my moonlight (you're my moonlight),
You're the starry skies above me won't you please come down and hug me,
Think I found love in this club tonight (Wowowowo)

Relationship is just 30 minutes long
It's kinda heavy maybe a lil strong
"Go and take" much more than once
Can't trust what each of us say at least for a month
Or two before I bid you adieu
Do this one thing for me outta the trillions of numbers that's in the world
Just leave me a few that lead to you
Won't be longing I see you in the morning

You're my sunshine (you're my sunshine),
You're my moonlight (you're my moonlight),
You're the starry skies above me won't you please come down and hug me,
Think I found love in this club tonight (Wowowowo)

General Commentidk. im thinking there is a bigger picture. you know lupe is never literal like that.

personally i beleive that this story is going on in his head like a day dream
some lies that hint @ it

"whispered in her ear its kinna crowded in here..and would she care to blow it"
maybe hes talking about its crowded in his head because of all the thoughts hes havin of her and "would u care to blow it" meaning blow his mind since we all know he doesnt smoke.

also "waken up by the horn of an SUV"..hes probably dazing out day dreaming while driving..idk its my 2 cents

My InterpretationI can't help but feel that he is refering to hip-hop! As you read my break-down, please note that the comments in the ( ) are why I feel each line leads me to this belief!

Fresh to Def she is (Comes in all forms, from Doug E. Fresh / Fresh Prince to Def Jam artists)
From her steps to her sets she is (Found on "steps" stoops, stairwells, to "sets" concert sets, gang sets)
So death might not let me live (To deny or "kill" the culture would be to "kill" a part of himself)
    Ya dig?
    Fresh
    Yes she is
    Had a feeling
That it would be a day like this (A day of unease for his first time performing on the mic)
The orchestra in my mind ("orchestra" being his thoughts that he's "composing")
Don't play like this (Not use to the unsteady pace of trying to put it all together)
But I'm prepared for it (Had a lil' sumthin' worked out to go off of)
Got a lil' rare for it (Treated it like a special occasion)
Brushed off my Airs (Busted out the old Nikes and dusted 'em off!)
Even cut my hair for it (Wanted to look confident on stage)
Normally I don't care for it (The butterflies from performing)
Don't even be lookin' for light like that ("light" being the lime light, spot light, center of attention)
Then there go it (It's calling him)
Yeah, right over there (Time to approach the mic)
So I prepared a poet ("poet" as in a rap...if you break it down, rapping is basically poetry to a soundtrack)
Little scared, my stared lowered (Intimidated by performing, eyes focus on the floor)
    Momma said "have no fear"
Plus I'm already outta my chair (No turning back now)
Gathered up my air (Took a deep breathe)
On my square from here forward ("Square" such as a starting block used by a track runner)
It's nothing right? (Convincing himself he can do it)
    So here go it
Whispered in her ear (Talking to the hip-hop rhyme that has built up in his head)
"It's kinda crowded in here," (There's too many thoughts floating around)
"Would you care to blow it" ("Blow" his mind, exit out via lyrics)
And she said yeah (Time to flow)

    CHORUS:
You're my sunshine (Everywhere he goes, sunlight touches everything)
You're my moonlight (The inspiration that guides him through "dark" times)
You're the starry skies above me (His form of art...his Van Gogh if you will)
Won't you please come down and hug me (Bless him with the love of the art)
Think I found love in this club tonight (Falling in love with hip-hop)

Never met her before (Never gave "her"...hip-hop...much time)
But I think I like her like a metaphor (Appreciates "her"...hip-hop...best in metaphorical form)
That's hard to get (Such as this song?)
In the car we sit ("We" being himself and a CD)
    From the intro (CD intro)
She rolled down the window (Opened up his mind)
Just in case I was a skitzo (....)
I compliment her on her Common Sense (Respects the rapper Common Sense...check out "I use to love her")
I'm calm, a little more confident (Feels at ease listening, and can relate)
And then we lose consciousness (Drifts off, and loses focus on the music)
She says "I've been waiting for you" (Hip-hop needs someone like him)
"And I know that you've been chasin' me too" (He needs an outlet like hip-hop)
"Since they kidnapped me from my castle" ("They" being the clowns who took hip-hop from respectable status)
"I been thinkin' of you" (Hoping someone would return it to it's essence)
"I told the Fire Breathin' Dragons, they better not harm me" (Again, the clowns : silly rappers, society, media, etc.)
"Or be sorry, when you meet my one man army" (Solo performer who will fight to bring it back, and expose the weakness)
"And thou has come to rescue me"
"My knight in shinning armor, yes you be"
Woken up by the horn of an SUV (Bringing him back to reality)
    I said see
Too beautiful to let you sleep (Sleeping Beauty...who he must save)

    CHORUS

Relationship is just 30 minutes long (Sits and writes)
    It's kinda heavy (Deep thoughts)
Maybe a lil' strong (Emotional issues)
Gonna take much more then once (Plans to write a lot more, like therapy sessions)
Can't trust what each of us say, at least for a month (Doesn't want to confuse entertainment with real life issues)
    Or two
Before I bid you adieu (Until they're next session)
Do this one thing for me
Out of the trillions of #'s that's in the world
    Just leave me a few
That lead to you (What radio stations can "she"...hip-hop...be found on)
Won't be long, and I'll see you in the morning ("Morning" will bring about a new day and a new era for hip-hop)

    CHORUS

i think that this is talking about commons song i used to love her. in commons song he says "and she was there for me, and i was there for here, pull out a chair for her, turn on the air for her, and just cool out, cool out and listen to her."
So when lupe says her is he talking about hip hop? she rolled down her window to keep the cool coming in and the cool going out, he than says a schitzo in case he was split between the two, hip hop and her? Than he says he compliments her on he common sense, which was commons name, common sense. IDK its hard for me to put into words but thats was my analysis of it.

General Commentmeets a beautiful girl in the club. appears as mostly a one night stnadish thing but he asures her that he wants more. he wants her number so that they could possibly have a relationship that lasts longer than the 30 mins they have had together. and he finishes it up with ill see you in the morning thus he wont dip out in the night like all those guys before.

    General CommentLupe isn't into drugs...
    At all.

    But I think it's about Hip-Hop.
A lot of artists make Hip-Hop a female.
Some lines fit this theory, while others don't.

"I think I like her like a metaphor."
A metaphor is a comparison between two things without using like or as.
A simile is a comparison between two things using like or as.
Both of these are used in Hip-Hop, and if I'm right about the Hip-Hop comparison, then both are being used in this line.

    Amazing song.

But I think I like her like a metaphor

i think this line is a pun, encoded as

never met her before, but i think i like her like i met her before.

in which case it would be a similie, pun, discussing a metaphor.
