Doesn't come down when she calls,
"It's time for breakfast."
Momma can't get down those halls
Fast enough to see
Glass is sprayed across the floor
From the broken window.
She can't breathe anymore.
Can't deny what we know.

They're gonna find you, just believe.
You're not a person; you're a disease.

All these lives that you've been taking,
Deep inside, my heart is breaking.
Broken homes from separation.
Don't you know it's violation?
It's so wrong, but you'll see.
Never gonna let you take my world from me.
The world outside these walls may know you're breathing,
But you ain't comin' in.
You ain't comin' in.

Posters hung on building walls
Of missing faces.
Months go by without the cause,
The clues, or traces.

Shed the light on all the ones who never thought they would become
A father, mother asking why this world can be so cold.

Doesn't come down when she calls,
"It's time for breakfast."
The memories begin to fall.
She asks, "When will I be free?"

All these lives that you've been taking,
Deep inside, my heart is breaking.
All these lives that you've been taking,
Deep inside, my heart is breaking.
All these lives that you've been taking,
Deep inside, my heart is breaking.
The world outside these walls may know you're breathing,
The world outside these walls may know you're breathing,
But you ain't comin' in

General Comment My first impression of the song “All These Lives,” by Chris Daughtry was that it was about how the violation is ruining our society. Although the beginning of the song seemed to be describing how a kid was kidnapped, the later verses mention “all these lives” that were taken away by “you.” It is very unlikely that one person would kidnap so many people, and thus Daughtry is taking a broad view of crimes in general and the case with the child abduction is merely an example of exactly how a family is damaged by violence. When the narrator says that “Never gonna let you take my world from me” and “you ain’t coming in,” he is protesting against the violence that is so prevalent in the society nowadays. He is trying to say that even though the violence is ruining everything else, it is not going to mess with his life. It is another proof that the song is not simply about the child abduction, since a kidnapper doesn’t necessarily have to ‘come in’, in order to cause trouble in someone’s life. In overall, the narrator is going back and forth from an example of child abduction to the criticizing of all kinds of violence. The essential theme of the song is that the violence is everywhere in the world and the narrator is fighting back against it because it hurts his heart whenever he sees the victims and he doesn’t want the violence to influence his own life.

General CommentI believe it's talking about kidnappers and how they aren't really human by doing this. This is a really powerful song and I love it

General Commentits defintely about child abduction. Its a great song. Everytime i hear it i get super sad. Its my second favorite, right next to I'm over you. The only reason i like Over you better is because i have a life experience to relate to that song.

Anyway this song is just magnficient. Chris said in an interview that it was about kidnappers but you could defintely tell before that. What a thing to sing about, i love people who sing about stuff that really matters rather then just stupid songs about only breakups and hookups. Those are cool too, just not a whole album full of them

    go daughtry!

General CommentI totally agree with you xgetawayxcar09, I think it is so important to sing about these kind of situations and to spread the message...because people need to be aware of these things, it can hapen to anyone. The lyrics are easy to understand that's why it is powerful. We all have to agree that people that are capable of kidnapping a child are disease...

General CommentI disagree with all of you. I don't think the song is about kidnapping at all. I think it's about the devil and how he's taking people's lives and they don't even realize it. The part where it says "she asks when will i be free" i think is talking about god. The only true way to be free is to give yourself to god. Everything about this song screams devil, broken homes, taking lives and all of it.

General Comment@marine-- Well, everyone has their own interpretation of songs.

I, on the other hand, DO agree with getawaycar and the rest. It's definitely about kidnappers. I love people who can sing about stuff like this..the IMPORTANT stuff. Also, his voice is so strong when he sings 'you're a disease'..it's said with so much emotion. LOVE this song

i also have to disagree with what you think this song means, i mean just these 4 lines pretty much say what this song means

    "Posters hung on building walls
    Of missing faces.
Months go by without the cause,
    The clues, or traces."

General Commenti agree with the kidnapping idea of the song. but me and my boyfriend also believe it would be talking about cancer....

when the song says,"there gona find you just believe; your not a person your a disease" and also when it says "all these lives youve been taking..."
