I washed the dishes poured out the old wine
Called a new friend for the second time
It's not bad this brand new life
It's clean and it's sharp like a brand new knife

I pull up the covers and curl up tight
Turn down the sound turn off the light
Close my eyes and I quietly whisper
Goodnight, goodnight (goodnight goodnight)

You're not here you're not even there
Out of my heart, out of my hair
I can't roll away this missing piece
You could only ever want what I could never ever be

I just pull up the covers and curl up tight
Turn down the sound turn off the light
Close my eyes and I quietly whisper
Goodnight, goodnight (goodnight goodnight)

How can I be okay if I'm pulling away
All the things that held together my life
All I want tonight is to touch you and kiss you
But I only wish you
Goodnight, goodnight (goodnight)

I just pull up the covers and curl up tight
Turn down the sound turn off the light
Close my eyes and I quietly whisper
Goodnight, goodnight (goodnight goodnight)

I just pull up the covers and curl up tight
Turn down the sound turn off the light
Close my eyes and I quietly whisper
Goodnight, goodnight (goodnight goodnight)

Goodnight (goodnight goodnight)
Goodnight (goodnight)
Goodnight, goodnight my honey just
Just sleep tight sleep tight my babyâ?¦

I think this song is about someone who just broke up with their gf/bf but wants them back. Am I right?

Not a big M.E. fan, but her voice is perfect for this track and I've loved it since first hearing it 1.5 years ago. She can't be with the person she loves for whatever reason, so all she can do is take comfort with the peace sleeping will bring. Before she finds her peace through dreams, she says goodnight to him/her as though the person was beside her. What should be a sad song comes off more of a love song. I really do love this song by Etheridge.

Dang...still no listeners to this wonderful song. It's the perfect song to listen to before heading back to bed after a lack of sleep (due to a dang cat!). "You could only ever want what I could never ever be" is such a poignant line.

I cannot get over how many people either don't know this song or don't like it; there should be so many comments about it. For me, it's the very best "Goodnight" song. I love it. I love it more each time I listen, and I'm not a big M.E. fan...

STILL no additional comments? Sad because this is such a good song. It's beautiful. And I'm tired and drugged so it's a fitting end to the day...

    Song Meaning

In her autobiography she talked about this song. At this point, her and Julie were no longer speaking. They would say "good morning" and "good night" to each other, but that was it. This is her trying to reach out to Julie, but not getting anywhere.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
