Long Time Gone Lyrics

It's been a long time comin'
It's goin' to be a Long Time Gone.
And it appears to be a long,
appears to be a long,
appears to be a long
time, yes, a long, long, long ,long time before the dawn.

Turn, turn any corner.
Hear, you must hear what the people say.
You know there's something that's goin' on around here,
the surely, surely, surely won't stand the light of day.
And it appears to be a long,
appears to be a long,
appears to be a long
time, yes, a long, long, long ,long time before the dawn.

Speak out, you got to speak out against the madness,
you got to speak your mind,
if you dare.
But don't no don't now try to get yourself elected
If you do you had better cut your hair.
`Cause it appears to be a long,
appears to be a long,
appears to be a long,
Time, such a long long long long time before the dawn.

It's been a long time comin'
It's goin' to be a long time gone.
But you know,
The darkest hour is always
Always just before the dawn.
And it appears to be a long, appears to be a long,
appears to be a long
Time before the dawn.

Crosby wrote this intense, angry song the very nite Bobby Kennedy was killed - in Rolling Stone he once made a comment that he believed that Bobby would have done great things and that he fully trusted in him to help the people - coming from David, this is indeed a strong statement - also, at Monterey Festival, Crosby challenged the Warren Report re: John F kennedy, a man he also admired

I always had assumed the lyrics to be about the Vietnam War ( a Good guess for that band and time period.) But-this makes sense, Too. Didn't know it was this old, either. It predates "Four Dead in Ohio" by several years (as does the 1970 Kent State Massacre, of course.)
