"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
And I'd give up forever to touch you
'cos I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
'cos sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see me
'cos I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything seems like the movies
Yeah, you'd bleed just to know you're alive
And I don't want the world to see me
'cos I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And I don't want the world to see me
'cos I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
This is such a terribly crap cover, of a masterpiece song
The Goo Goo Dolls are muuuch better, I didn't even know he covered this song.
Are you joking?! Keating has a far nicer voice than the singer from the goo goo dolls.
HOLY SHIT ARE U KIDDING?
No one should ever cover the Goo Goo Dolls! esp this song

even better, have you heard the avril lavigne version? i love covers of this song. the goo goo dolls are so annoying.
lol, no offense, but Ronan Keating's voice is, um... humorous. And what's with the video that accompanying it? It's got nothing to do with the song...
well, i reckon that ronan keatings voice sounds better in the verses, but goo goo dolls sound WAY better in the chorus
siiiigh ok I'll go down load the goo goo dolls' version and then I'll comment..
LMAO, fuck me, ronan keating's version shits all over the goo goo doll version, anyone here who said otherwise needs to grow some fucking ears or develop a devent taste in music.
anyway, I didn't even know this song existed until about a year ago.
and for the record I'm not a big fan of either of these singers. I'm just saying it how it is.
