green light, seven eleven
you stop in for a pack of cigarettes
you don’t smoke
don’t even want to
hang out, check your change

dressed up like a car crash
wheels are turning but your upside-down
you say when he hits you
you don’t mind
because when he hurts you,
you feel alive

oh, is that what it is

red lights, gray morning
you stumble out of a whole in the ground
a vampire or a victim
it depends on who’s around
you used to stay in to watch the adverse,
you could to lip-synch to the talk shows
and if you look, you look through me
and when you talk, it’s not to me
and when I touch you, you don’t feel a thing

if I could stay then a night would give you up
stay and the day would keep its trust
stay and the night would be alive

far away, so close
up with the static and the radio
with satellite, television
you can go any where
Miami, New Orleans, London, Belfast, and Berlin
and if you listen I can call
and if you jump, you just might fall
and if you shout I’ll only hear you

if I could stay then a night would give you up
stay and the day would keep its trust
stay with the demons you drowned
stay with the spirit I found
stay and the night would be alive

Oh… Oh… Oh…Oh

three o’ clock in the morning
it’s quiet and there’s no one around
just a bang and a clatter
as angel rams the ground
just a bang and a clatter
as angel hits the ground

My InterpretationGeez. I love this song so much. The guitar and Lacey’s voice just sound so beautiful together. Anyway. Here’s my take on it...
“You stop in for a pack of cigarettes. You don’t smoke, don’t even want to.” I think that this part is about a woman who has an abusive husband back home. She stalls whenever she’s out, looking for any excuse to stay away from home. “Dressed up like a car crash, wheels are turning but you’re upside-down.” This explaining how she’s basically a wreck. Her husband hits her and she doesn’t exactly mind because it makes her feel alive, implying that she’s unusually numb otherwise. Maybe depression?
Then going on... “Vampire or a victim, it depends on who’s around.” Meaning that the person acts differently according to surroundings. “If you look, you look through me. And when you talk, its not to me. And when I touch you, you don’t feel a thing.” Going on to talk about the depression making her numb. The rest of the lyrics talk about how the singer (Lacey) tells the person that she’ll be there for them, if only they reach out for help. “If you listen, I can call... If you shout, I’ll only hear you.” Then, the very end, I’m guessing that it means the person is the angel Lacey is singing about. “As an angel hits the ground,” says that the person gives up on life and they probably die. =[
Sad song but wonderful nonetheless. Man, I absolutely love Flyleaf. The song may or may not be Christian in itself, but Flyleaf is a Christian band if you care about labels.
