Ohhh dear
What if everything they say is true?
Ohhh, ohhh dear
Then there won't be anything for me and you

Well
Even if we have to start all over again
What will be the point in being a fool again?
Even if, even if we have to start all over again
Oh what will be, what will be, what will be
The point in being a fool again?

Oh oh oh...no no no

I made a decision
Revised it again
I saw what it meant to both my parents and friends
And I couldn't do it if I had tried
I couldn't hide my feelings inside

I say that's not my way, that's not my way
That's not like me, that's not like me
That's not my way, that's not my way
That's not like me, that's not like me
I couldn't do it, I couldn't do it
Ohh and I tried, I tried and I tried
I say that's not like me, that's not like me
That's not my way, that's not my way
I couldn't do it, I couldn't do it
I couldn't try, try try try
That's not my way, that's not my way
That ain't my way

If I feel it in my heart
Ohhh ohhh

General CommentI agree with Qlikser - this has to be one of the most incredible songs I've ever heard. It's at the top of my favorites from Talking Heads.

Simply wonderful. As to its meaning, like much of DB's lyrics, it's happy and carefree. "I feel it in my heart" suggests to me that he's now certain that what 'they're' saying must be true - that 'she' has done something to make him a fool. Starting over is out, and he can no longer hide his feelings inside. (That's not his way!)

A simply beautiful and awesome melody, funk, rhythm, and vocals, as is typical from this talented group.

My OpinionI could be wrong, but I don't think that this is a happy song. First of all, I believe that the vocals, the bass and the keyboards, all convey a warm yet bittersweet, melancholic, nostalgic feeling. In my opinion, this beautiful song is about accepting an end, or your own limits (there won't be anything for me and you), what you can do and what you simply can't. They way I perceive it, it is about trying to figure out things, or yourself even perhaps, pulling yourself together and trying to move on, accepting yourself and staying true to yourself. It's about trying not to let things bring you down and moving on. And in this way, it is not a pessimistic song, despite the fact that it does in a sense revolve around pointlessness, but a reflective song that consoles and heals. It is not in itself carefree, but it tells us that ultimately stuff can go wrong and that there's no point in beating yourself up about it, if you have done the best you could and pursued what was in your heart, if you couldn't have done anything else. For me, it's like a warm hug, after something has gone wrong.
