"A Small Spark Vs. a Great Forest" as written by and Cory Putman Scottie Henry....
What did you say?
Don't speak.
You nailed down all your words on me and it felt like a blind guide.
Leading me into quicksand.
So fight fair, fight fair.
Not all you hear is noise.
Fight fair, fight fair!
I've earthed this seed so many times.
Deeply held in this skin of bark.
Branches made of ash and forests born aflame.
Restless and full of poison.
Shattered by a sea of dialogue.
Rabid speech, like dogs with teeth.
Words like a beggar.
That don't speak.
Crouched and bent out of shape.
Rip this tongue out by the root.
Shake the walls of this pale grave.
A blaze, a blaze is set upon the hills.
An open grave from which a great forest will rise, the fire collapses.
The corpses I've made.
This should not be.
Oh, how we curse.
The tongue is a flame.
Let there be grace.
Fight fair.

General Commenti beleive this song to be about.... lord knows lol.
something to do with the power of speech and how it can be misused to do harm perhaps? its tough to tell with norma jean because their lyrics are quite poetic and trippy

General Commentall of norma jean's lyrics are metaphorical and symbolic and just beautiful.

i think its about the slander of a good reputation and betrayal. The title, "A Small Spark vs. A Great Forest" could represent how in the song the small spark kills all the forest, even though it was so tiny. I feel its about how rumors and secrets spread like wildfire.

    So well written!

General CommentThis is such a good song. It's based off of James 3:5-12 which basically says you need to watch what you say.

    General CommentBenjamin328 is right.

    James 3:5-12 -
Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue is also a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of one's life on fire by hell. All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by humans, but no one can tame the tounge. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With the tounge we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse our human beings, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth comes praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers and sisters, can a fid tree bear olives, or grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

    General Commentoh and btw
this is def my favorite song from them

it's crazy how much meaning can come from their lyrics.
Christains read their lyrics and think they have nothing to do with Christianity, but if you take the time to think about and analyze them, they have so much to do with it. its amazing

General CommentI'm not a Christian, and I don't feel my 'religion' (Gaudiya Vaishnava/Hare Krishna) is superior to others.
The quote burtonsnow845 gave from the Bible is the truth, and you don't have to be a Christian to agree.
Also, I love Norma Jean, I love Christ, I love all religions.
