"Alone" as written by and Russell/lardie/niven/kendall....
Don't feel useless, but don't ask
If I'm hiding or I'm holding something back
I have nothing that isn't yours
But there's a place I need to go behind closed doors

I don't be afraid
I don't be ashamed
If you let me go you know I will be back again

And I know from the outside looking in
You can't find me here
You don't know where to begin
I can't say anything you need to know
You're the ocean, I'm an island
We're together but I'm still alone

Keep on sailing for the shore
When you get here you won't find what you were looking for
You're still reaching so I've become
So distant that I can't be touched by anyone

Just give me space
Some time away
It's a place only for me but I'll be back again

I don't need you to save me

I know from the outside looking in
You can't find me here
You don't know where to begin
If I can't say anything you need to know
You're the ocean, I'm an island
We're together but I'm still alone

General CommentI love this song! While it's important to retain your independence when in a relationship, I think in this case she has withdrawn too much and is scared of relying on her boyfriend and giving in to the relationship. When he tries to reach out to her she withdraws from him. She seems defensive and determined to stay by herself, despite being in a relationship. She's trying to convince him that she is his, but needs her own space. You have to wonder whether she's been hurt in a relationship before and is trying to protect herself this time.
