"High and Low" as written by and Greg Laswell....
I'm going to see some friends from out of state
The very trip you were supposed to take
A while ago
But it fell through
Like all of you
Like all of you

Thought I'd make the drive
But a free plane ride is in the air
And just like that my fear of it disappeared
Like all of you
Like all of you

And I look high and low for yesterday
High and low for you and I
High and low

Once I can see straight I might move
Somewhere cold
Seattle or the Bay area; to see your ghost
What's left of you
What's left of you

And I look high and low for yesterday
High and low for you and I
High and low

Found a letter from a man I might have met
Addressed to you
And I'll steal the words he ended with:
I miss you
And I do
Miss you
And I do

High and low for yesterday
High and low for you and I
High and low

General Commenti found greg on myspace - just browsing through indie, unsigned bands and what not and i immediatly fell in love with this song. i know a lot of people relate to songs like these with past relationships and this song in general goes creepishly great with my last relationship. i was seeing this guy for a little under 5 months and i was absolutely head over heals but there was so many unspoken problems. i guess we thought because we cared about eachother so much that the problems would just disappear. we were supposed to take a trip upstate to visit my best friend for a weekend but the plans fell through and a few weeks later we broke up. when he says "i look high and low for yesterday i look high and low for you and i" thats exactly how i feel. we met through mutual friends and it was great bc it was all couples and we all always had a good time and i really miss that part of my life. i dont even talk to those friends anymore. a lot the the time i do things i know that we would enjoy doing together - kinda like how he says "to see your ghost - whats left of you" - its kind of pathetic, but im sure everyone does it. after we broke up i wrote him this long letter about how i truely felt about everything (all the unspoken problems) and at the end of it i wrote i miss you a lot - even though we were still talking at the time i wrote the letter everything was totally different, it was like we were trying to become strangers so we could just get over it fast. a while later, before we really stopped talking, he told me he cried when he read the letter and wished we would have spoke about those things a lot sooner. in the end we really just hurt eachother too much. i havent talked to him in about 4 months but i still feel very close to him.

anyway, the song is amazing - greg laswell is amazing.

General CommentThanks wolf cub. You bring up a good point. I went through the verses and put what I have down now.

    Verse 1
"I'm going to see some friends from out of state. The very trip that you were suppose to take a while ago, but it fell through. Like all of you, like all of you."

She was going to see friends, but somehow didn't get to see them. Now he must see them to tell them of her passing.

    Verse 2
"Thought I'd make the drive, but a free plane ride is in the air and just like that my fear of it disappeared. Like all of you, like all of you."

A plane ride is discounted or free in cases of bereavement. His fear of flying disappears like how she disappears from his life.

    Chorus
"And I look high and low for yesterday. High and low for you and I high and low."

He is remembering the memories and old times he had with her.

    Verse 4
"Once I can see straight I might move somewhere cold. Seattle or the Bay area to see your ghost. What's left of you. What's left of you."

He can't see straight because tears blur the vision. What's left of her is in him, and he is moving somewhere cold so he can see his breath in the air. Breathing is needed for life, and she is his breath. So being able to see the condensing of his breath, is in someway seeing her. This might seem a little far fetched, but I think it fits well.

    Verse 5
"Found a letter from a man I might have met addressed to you, and I'll steal the words he ended with, 'I miss you, and I do. I miss you, and I do.'"

When he is going through her belongings, he finds a letter she kept that he wrote for her. It was a love letter talking about how he wants to be with her, but now the letter to him means he misses her and needs her more than before. He "might have met" because he is in a different state in his life than he was when he originally wrote the letter.

Some parts of this might seem a bit reaching, but with this the song seems to be more meaningful to me. It's a great song.

    But it fell through

It means we're supposed to take a trip and meet my friend but you died and plan fell through.

    Thought I'd make the drive
But a free plane ride is in the air
And just like that my fear of it disappeared
    Like all of you
    Like all of you

I always fear of losing you but now you're gone and i have learned to live alone and so my fear is gone.

And I look high and low for yesterday
High and low for you and I
    High and low

Once I can see straight I might move
    Somewhere cold
Seattle or the Bay area; to see your ghost
    What's left of you
    What's left of you

Once tears from my eye will gone and i can see clearer , i will move to the place that you liked ( may be she/he liked the colder place ) to remember the moment ( ghost refers memory) that we lived together.

And I look high and low for yesterday
High and low for you and I
    High and low

Found a letter from a man I might have met
    Addressed to you
And I'll steal the words he ended with:
    I miss you
    And I do
    Miss you
    And I do

When i was going through your belongings i found a letter that i wrote to you that end with i miss you. i want to say again that i still miss you when you're not here.
    High and low for yesterday
High and low for you and I
    High and low

    General CommentNice song, very relaxing.

To me this song is talking about someone who wants the past he had with someone else. Whether it be because she passed away or they broke up. Also, I think the man who wrote the letter is actually him.

General Commenti agree with you chef brian. i think he is looking back on a past love and that he is the man who wrote the letter. i think he says its from 'a man I might have met' because he can't recognise himself anymore because he's lost a bit of himself since she's gone away.

General CommentI really think that it's
i miss you and i NEED , thats NEED YOU.
makes everything so much more sad and beautiful and strange.
This song is just about losing the person you never thought you would lose. And how much it hurts.

General Commenti completely agree with maddilne. whatever the personal meaning of this song is to the writer, i definitely think it is generally about losing a person you never thought you would lose.

beautiful song, perfectly matched with piano to express that unique, sad feeling of someone disappearing from your life.
