I am the crook who robs me
I am my own adversary
I am my enemy
I am my enemy
And my mouth is an army
And when the night falls on me
I become anything but free
I get so sick of this
It gets ridiculous
My mouth is an army

The sound in my mouth, it gets so loud
It gets so loud
The little words can't slip out
Words like "sorry"
And I'm so sorry, yeah

I am the tyrant of discourse
I am the beater of the dead horse
I am the irritant
I am the irritant
And my mouth is a brute force
Here we are in another night
Gearing up for a social accident
With a big crowd, I pick sides, I pick fights
My mouth is an army

The sound in my mouth, it gets so loud
It gets so loud
The little words can't slip out
Words like "sorry"
The sound in my mouth, it gets so loud
It gets so loud
The little words can't slip out
Words like "sorry"
I'm so sorry, yeah

Where will you find yourself without love?
Give love to someone else
Is that enough?
If love is to find yourself, are you finding love
Or are you picking sides?

The sound in my mouth gets so loud
Gets so loud
It gets so loud
Gets so loud
So loud
So loud
Gets so loud

The sound in my mouth, it gets so loud
It gets so loud
The little words can't slip out
Words like "sorry"
I'm so sorry

i honestly think this song is amazing in its msg and sound. sadly i believe ppl look for the sound of the song to decide whether or not they'll like it or not. like songs like awakening and like amateur lovers. i know i did the same. but there is so much more to a song. i think this is part of the song. "its gets so loud" compared to how a song can sound soo "cool" and the "little words cant slip out" compared to the msg of the song cant be found because we focus to much on the sound of the song. but aside from that the song talks about how our mouth is one of our most powerful weapons and our enemy at time. we can use our mouth to put someone down so badly its almost like killing them. The Bible says we must tell others of God's Truth, how He sent His only Son to die for our sins, and also says that we must use our mouth for goodness, not for putting ppl down, cursing, and other just wicked things. show love towards one another. dont let your mouth be used as a weapon.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
