"Blind As A Bat" as written by Desmond Child and James Michael....
I'm not afraid to show you who I am
And I am not ashamed of my life
Though I've walked alone down this cold and soulless road
I've always felt you deep in my bones

With every step I rise and fall
With everything to gain I end up losing it all
When the darkness gets in
I scream out and your light sets me free

I'm not afraid of the past no more
I'm not afraid and I'm bad for good
I used to dance to the devil's beat
If I could bust into hell I would

I'm not afraid to shed all my skin
I'm not afraid of the faults you see
I'm tearing down these walls right now
They're comin' down 'cause I believe

Your love is blind, blind as a bat
The way that you're leading me home like that
Your love is blind, blind as bat

I'm not afraid when they kick me down
I'm not afraid when I start to bleed
I'm not afraid if I live or die
I'm not afraid 'cause I believe

Your love is blind, blind as a bat
The way that you're leading me home like that
Your love is blind, blind as bat

And I wish that I could give you something in return
For the precious time you wasted on the tears I've never earned
For reaching out to help me 'cross the bridges that I burned

And in the end you'll finally see
That, baby, I've done everything I possibly can
I do it again 'cause know you're everything that I need

I'm not afraid of the the truth no more
I'm not afraid of the lies I hid
I'm not afraid of the past of my sins
'Cause I paid for the wrongs I did

I'm not afraid of the things you know
I'm just a book for the world to read
My final words on the final page
Will be amends 'cause I believe

Your love is blind, blind as a bat
The way that you're leading me home like that
Your love is blind, blind as bat

Your heart is kind, mine's painted black
The way me forgive me and just take me back
Your love is blind, blind as bat

Your love is blind, blind as a bat
The way that you're leading me home like that
Your love is blind, blind as bat

Your heart is kind, mine's painted black
The way me forgive me and just take me back
Your love is blind, blind as bat...

General CommentWouldn't interpret it as god. More as a woman who loves him in spite of his faults or rather his past...

If you actually listen to the lyrics

"I'm not afraid if I live or die
I'm not afraid 'cause I believe"

    is followed by

"Your love is blind, blind as a bat"

So he's not talking about some sort of religious belief.

Song MeaningThis song isn't about a supernatural entity from mythological folklore (i.e. "god"). It's about something totally real. It's about the love between two people.

General CommentI think that there could be alot of interpretations of this song, but when I first heard it I thought it was about finding a soulmate or a real best friend because they love you despite of all your flaws, and you get to a point where you aren't ashamed and you don't hide anything from them anymore, as in the line
"I'm not afraid to show you who I am"

Also the line "For reaching out to help me
Cross the bridges I have burned" could be about how your soulmate/best friend doesn't give up on you and however much you try to distance your self from them they will always be there for you and help you rebuilt what you have destroyed.

It is an absolutly beautiful song though, which ever way you look at it, and it can mean different things to each person depending on their own experiences, as with a lot of Meatloaf songs.

General CommentGod's unfailing love. To interpret this song as 'a woman's faithful love for her man' is very futile and unoriginal. It's clearly about something much higher than that because of this:

"I'm not afraid when they kick me down
I'm not afraid when I start to bleed
I'm not afraid if I live or die
I'm not afraid 'cause I believe"

General CommentI'd say that is pretty accurate. He does do a lot of songs with the theme of heaven and hell.

General CommentTo me this is ultimately about a woman's love for the character. It is entirely possible to interpret the love as that of God and I thought you were right until I had a closer look. However, "you'll finally see
That, baby..." , I doubt that God would be adressed as baby. I take the whole album as a Dracula type character singing, just to clarify.

    General CommentAgain... read these words:

"I'm not afraid when they kick me down
I'm not afraid when I start to bleed
I'm not afraid if I live or die
I'm not afraid 'cause I believe"

To say that's the love of a woman for a man.. no... again that's futile...

If Meat were to have put 'God' instead of 'baby'... how many morons would scoff at the scoff as being 'wussy' and 'religious'... listen t most love songs, and replace 'baby' with 'Lord'.. then they reach a new level.

General Comment"belief" in something that transcends flesh, or pain, or life, or death, doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with any god, dude.

Of the two, in my own life, I would trust my woman's love more than any God's... my woman is less fickle. (Also she smites people less often.)
