"Like Castanets" as written by Justin Rice and Christian Rudder....
This city is silver in the moon
And mountains heaped with sugar spoons
The click and clatter of my feet
On lonely crooked cobbled streets
Like castanets

Down past the window shutter tie
The hollow of a haunted night
It's raining now out on the beach
The chitter-chatter of my teeth
Like Castanets

I'm following the coffee trail
And drink it black and by the bail
The pesos turn to paper cups
My fingers tremble at the touch
Like castanets

Across the Mapocho
Santa Lucia
Barrio Bella vista
San Cristobal
Across the Mapocho
La Moneda
La Casa de Neruda

And on the cable car I climb
Up to the sacred virgin shrine
This city's smothered in the smog
The snippy-snap of wild dogs
Like Castanets

Tomorrow is Assumption Day
I ask them what they celebrate
Daniello says he can't explain
But he'll be clappin' anyway
Like Castanets

Ohh…Like Castanets

General CommentI think i am in love... I just saw these guys last night. This song is missing some lyrics, but anyway a castanet is a musical instrument to put is bluntly, and i think this song is about a night out on the town. The moon is going down the night is almost over. The tone of the song makes you think quiet contemplation, but the lyrics make you think hungover, lonely, disoriented. The clickity i mean. Lonely, but content and happy in their quiet contemplation.

Christian has the most beautiful smile in the world. I like the way he gets choked up when hitting high notes. I told him that last night, and i couldn't tell if he was scared or not...well it was halloween, dun, dun, dun.

That makes me think so much of one of my best friends.
This song makes me smile, the lyrics are really great.

General CommentThis song is about Santiago in Chile. As a Chilean living in the US I was so nostalgic when I listened to this song. Santa Lucia is a hill in the middle of the city, Bella Vista is a bohemian neighborhood, San Cristobal is another hill, La Moneda is the equivalent to the White House in the US. He also mentions Neruda, a great Chilean poet....this band is great and now greater with a song about the marvelous Santiago.

General CommentThis song is great. In my next trip to Santiago I'll put it in my ipod.

    The missing part is:

"Across The Mapocho (A river which divides the city):
    Santa Lucia
    Barrio (Neighborhood) Bella Vista
    San Cristobal
    Across The Mapocho: La Moneda
    La Casa de Neruda..."

General CommentLOVE this song, though after hearing live versions of this song i believe these are the lyrics, not too different from the original posted:

General Commenti can totally relate to PatRoch. Although i was born in Australia but of chilean parents, this song literally brought tears to my eyes, and i too felt nostalgic. I completely fell in love with Santiago! and it was so exciting hearing about Cerro San cristobal and all the places that are mentioned in the song as I WAS THERE! (=

General Commentpa mis compatriotas and the rest...

i was born in chile but raised in L.A. i just got back from spending the last 3 years in Santiago and saw Bishop Allen last night since my friend is now in the band. hadn't heard much from the band besides the new album and he mentioned before the show "there's a song about a Chilean city, i think its Santiago." i didn't even know what it was until "across the mapocho" and had goosebumps. love this song y viva Chile!
