"Jenny Again" as written by and Samuel Jonah Genders....
Jenny so shy
Jenny so shy
So shy
So shy
Throw the knife into the stream
Run away across the fields
Leave me lying where I fell
Rivers running out of me
Meet my Jenny in the lane
Take a car and run away
Get as far as you can get
Before the new day

Your heart beats quick and strong
Your mind pores over it all
Don't worry because no one saw me fall

Hmm, hmm
Hmm, hmm
Jenny so shy
Sit inside a little chef
Look around but not at her
See my kisses on her lips
See my fingers in her hair
Think of this against your will
See the knife edge slipping in
See the questions in my eyes
As I ask them

I went so quick it makes you shudder that I'm gone
Are we so brittle has your soul turned into stone
And though you loved me I'm not Jenny in the night
Some decisions don't thread back to being right

Your head blurs quickly tonight
Your edges diffuse in the light
Don't tell me that your throat is getting tight

Change your name and find a job
Marry Jenny in the spring
Buy a dog and call him Pete
Push the children on the swings
Think about me now and then
Try to find a peaceful space
Count the days as they go by
Count the lines upon your face

Your heart beats quick and strong
Your mind pores over it all
Don't worry because no one saw me fall

Hmm, hmm
Hmm, hmm

General Commentit's pretty lame that i'm the first to comment - such a good song.
the meaning of the song is pretty clear, if you listen carefully enough. the song is sung from the viewpoint of a person as he is dying or after he has died, talking to his friend who has murdered him because he was having an affair with his partner.

General CommentI view the song as being a little bit more figurative. I think the narator has been betrayed by his best friend and lover and is expressing it using his death (murder) and there life together as a metaphor. The knife stabbing someone in the back seems to reflect that as well. Amazing tune.

My InterpretationI think that the song is about a Girl (Jenny) that he loved and lost. He is looking at her with much sadness and regret. It is for me the emotional pain that feels like a knife stabbing his heart, not so figurative but that is just my thoughts.

General CommentI love this song, although it is horribly sad also. I see the viewpoint as being the imaginary voice of 'Pete' living on in the mind of his killer, as he struggles to deal with guilt and regret. The repetition of the 'don't worry, no-one saw me fall' line also pays heed to his never-ending fears over getting caught. For me, the line about 'some decisions don't thread back to being right' is the most moving part: the protagonist is ultimately unable to find his peaceful space, living with what he has done.

I personally don't think that the murder is intended to be figurative allusion, although the song works either way really, as it is about the consequences of betrayal either way.

... wow... I just found the video on youtube while typing this... it is pretty much perfect. That lost look in the guy's eyes at the end, quite... deflating...

Song ComparisonI'd like to point out that the speaker in this song seems to be Sweet William, or could very well be. Listen to that song and then Jenny Again again and tell me you don't hear it. Clearly the murder in this song is caused by jealousy over the lover named Jenny, and though the lover is addressed as "you" in Sweet William, the murder there is clearly still driven by jealousy and affection over the girl. Either way I love both songs dearly.

My InterpretationIt is interesting reading other peoples interpretations of the lyrics to this beautiful little song. I was introduced to it only last year by a dear friend as it seems to be so close to my life. I walked into a field last year and slit my wrists after the end of my marriage due to my wife having an affair with an old flame, there were rivers running out of me...luckily I survived and after weeks in a mental institution I got back in contact with my soul mate...Jennie...of whom I fell in love with five years prior but couldn't leave my family to be with her.
All I have to do is marry her in the spring and get a dog name Pete...both of which I intend to lol...and this song is just a biography of my recent life.
    BIG LOVE Tunng
