"It's Amateur Night at the Apollo Creed!" as written by David Katz, Gabe Saporta and Sam Hollander....
Here's a new idea
I've got news for you
There's no free rides tonight
If you're strapped for cash
I've got a job for you
My boots need shining, son

Sit down, shut up
Oh where do we begin?
The streets are full of anything you want
The city lies inviting you right in
Don't be afraid, don't be afraid

You can put your hands up
I love girls with Brooklyn haircuts
I'll be you're fan club
Step, step
You're too slow
Speed it up

Here's your new position
There's no need for you
To wait in line tonight
Misshapes
What's up? Where's your dancing shoes?
The kiddies get it on

Sit down, shut up
Oh where do we begin?
The streets are full of anything you want
The city lies inviting you right in
Don't be afraid, don't be afraid

You can put your hands up
I love girls with Brooklyn haircuts
I'll be you're fan club
Step, step
You're too slow
Speed it up

All you wanted, I got
Never give it up
Finish what you started
Step, step
You're too slow
Speed it up

You can put your hands up
I love girls with Brooklyn haircuts
I'll be you're fan club
Step, step
You're too slow
Speed it up

General CommentI can't believe more people haven't commented on this song. It's great.

To me, it screams: "Let's throw all our apprehensions away and party," one of those great "enjoy your youth" kind of anthems preaching and teaching the gospel of appreciating what you have and the fact that "you ain't dead yet." And I can definitely dig the "night on the town" comment by korkhead. This is something I'd love to listen to with friends while we head downtown for clubbing or whatever; great beat, great lyrics, and so freaking fun to dance to.

General CommentAmateur night has to do with stripping, I'm pretty sure. (or at least it does in some cases, and because it's Cobra it probably has to do with stripping)

Song MeaningIt's actually about the fictional fight of Apollo Creed and Rocky Balboa in Rocky 1 from Apollo's point of view.

The lines below are taunts (Apollo was taunting Rocky throughout the movie)

"What's up? Where's your dancing shoes? The kiddies get it on"

"If you're strapped for cash, I've got a job for you: My boots need shining son"

"There's no competition because you're not even in my league.

"You can put your hands up
I love girls with Brooklyn haircuts
    I'll be your fanclub
    Step, step-- you're too slow
    Speed it up"

    And finally, the song title.

"It's Amateur Night at the Apollo Creed"
Rocky was brought in to fight Apollo creed as an Amateur fighter. Need I say more?
