You have her pictures
You have her pictures
You have her pictures everywhere

You're covered in stitches
You're covered in stitches
You think I can't see them
But I know they're there

Take her down from the wall
Let yourself fall
You can't keep her frozen
Dormant at your court
You can try to move on
Tripped by stitches, come undone

You lost your big heart
You lost your big heart
You lost your big heart beating bare

She gave you a new start
She gave you a new start
But you knew you'd lost her to despair

Take her down from the wall
Let yourself fall
You can't keep her frozen
Dormant at your court
You can try to move on
Tripped by stitches come undone

Your skin burns and prickles
Your skin burns and prickles
Your skin burns and prickles when she's near

You try to play it cool
You try to play it cool
You try to play it cool
But you're filled with fear

Take her down from the wall
Let yourself fall
You can't keep her frozen
Dormant at your court
You can try to move on
Tripped by stitches come undone

Take her down from the wall
Let her go, make her yours
You can't keep her frozen
Dormant at your court
You can try to move on
Tripped by stitches come undone

You can try to move on
Tripped by stitches come undone
You can try to move on
Tripped by stitches come undone
You can try to move on
Or maybe she is the one

My ex made a video project with this song. It was filmed in his house in December 07 with flashbacks from August, footage of the back of my head as I walked around his loft for the first time in August 07. When the song reaches "you can try to move on, tripped by stitches come undone you can try to move on, or maybe she is the one" there's a bit with our hands on the table, each holding a cigarette, lifting it for a last drag and simultaneously putting them out. It was the last time I went to see him. I'm engaged to someone else now and live in another country, but this song still makes me cry. Yes, it's about exes - the ones you can't let go, and don't want to do that anyway. And it's beautiful, because it ends with that bittersweet line that's hopelessly hopeful.

    Song Meaning

ILM: Pictures is your new studio track. Can you give us your own personal description of the track and its whole vibe?

SIA: Yeah, I was working in my friend's studio and he had broken up with his girlfriend about eight months prior, and he had all these pictures up behind his computer in the studio of him and his ex girlfriend these huge posters of her all over the studio. And it had been such a long time, and he talks about her all the time but he wasn't sure whether he wanted to be with her or whether he didn't, and I was at the end of a very long song writing period and was looking for inspiration. Because the f***ed part about writing songs everyday is that you end up not having any life to actually write about; you can't write about writing songs and it becomes this kind of catch 22. So, I guess I just looked up and thought I'll write a song about him being incapable of moving on. So I wrote it and gave it to him and he was both touched and alarmed and removed all the photos.

i think the line is "you can't keep her frozen, dormant at your core" ...i don't see how "court" could make sense... :P

i know someone for whom this fits perfectly :\

what a great song- about trying to let go of someone that has hurt you though you still love em. but maybe, no matter how hard you try the thought of her stays with you because you believe she's that one

this sounds like a song you would play when you're with someone who's still not over their ex. it's meloncholy but blunt. it's very matter of factly, you know the person you're with so well and you see that they're still harboring feelings for their ex whether it be by still having actual pictures still there or metaphorically speaking pertaining to the crystalized image they have of their ex that they're having such a hard time letting go of.

it's the acknowlegment of the fact that the person you're with isn't fully yours and you're pleading for them to move on or to just go on and be with her.

    My Opinion

I think this song is about someone whose new partner can't let go of their deceased lover. She is so desperate for her partner to "take her down off the wall" so they can move on. But She still feels like she is living in the shadow of his deceased lover.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
