I'll tell you what you wanna know
But boy, you better listen close.
People gonna tell you lies
Don't let it comes as a surprise.
That woman's on my back again.
I know she's got the best intention
When you began to relize
You know, got your daddy's eyes.

And there's something I wanna say:
I love her too.
And all of this has got nothing to do with you.
And I'd like to stay but I can't because I've been fooling around
And I know that you're cold because you never even knew that it was hurting me
When you put it on the other hand.
When you're old enough to understand
That glove will bring it all the light
I didn't say that made it right.

That woman's on my back again.
I know she's got the best intention
When you began to relize
You know, got your daddy's eyes.

And theres something I wanna say:
I love her too.
And all of this has got nothing to do with you.

And I'd like to stay but I can't because I've been fooling around
And I know that you're cold because you never even knew that it was hurting me

And I'd like to stay but I can't because I've been fooling around
And I know that you're cold because you never even knew that it was hurting me

Sometimes we forget time,
And I woke up a little too late to lie
And dreams should last a long time
This is not what I'd call goodbye

And I'd like to stay but I can't because I've been fooling around
And I know that you're cold because you never even knew that it was hurting me

And I'd like to stay but I can't because I've been fooling around
And I know that you're cold because you never even knew that it was hurting me
Me...

I love her too...

General CommentMost of the song's lyrics are wrong on here...but this part is really bothering me. The correct lyrics to this part are....

    Sometimes people get tired
And I woke up a little to late to lie
Dreams should last a long time
This is not what I'd call goodbye

My InterpretationPeople seemed confused over this line:

'When you put it on the other hand
When you're old enough to understand
That glove will bring it all to light
I didn't say that made it right.'

What I take it to mean is the saying 'The glove's on the other hand', meaning seeing a situation from a different perspective. So what it's saying is that when the child is old enough to know about these feelings they'll understand better why their father cheated on his wife, but it still doesn't make it right.

General Commenti think the song is about a father who has cheatead on his wife, and he explains the situation to his son, and kind apologizes too.

great song, and i kind of think that even brandon says that he makes up lots of songs, i think made up things HAVE ALWAAAYS a bit of true, or at least that's what i hope, because i really hate his wife tana! LOL

General Commenti think its talkin about an ilegitimate child he has, who has just realized he's got "his daddy's eyes" and wants to know why he (brandon) left. brandon explains he loves his mom but he fools around too much and there's no way back but still it hurts.
"when u put it un the other hand, when ur old to understand" --> the kid may not get it now but he will someday and he will forgive his dad, even if it was wrong.

i dont get the part of "that woman's on my back again", still i love this song, it makes me feel a bit sad

its about a man that has screwed up a lot in his life but still loves his kid...

    this shit really happens...

i woke up a lil to late to life --> i realized i messed up but its too late

    love the killers, they're genius
    the guitar solo is good!

General CommentThis song, in my opinion is a father talking to his son about how hes leaving to be with another woman, how its not the boys fault that this is happening, that he still loves the boys mother, and that if the the son is anything like the father, he'll understand why he can't stay when he gets older...

This is really wieird because I'm going through the same thing and my dad said basicl;y the same thing...

General CommentDefinitely about a divorce. The lines that confuse most people, the bit about "that woman's on my back again," sound like she's forcing a divorce. It's obvious that the father cheated and he's trying to explain it to his son, but I think the father sincerely regrets what he did. He understands, though, why his wife's upset, but he still loves her and wishes he could fix it. He hopes his son will understand someday what happened, and not hate his father for his mistake.

    General CommentGreat song.

I think what the father is trying to get across to his son is that there are bigger problems with the relationship between him and the child's mother then just the child. Trying to explain it, he goes off on tangents where he seems to be talking to the woman.

Hes found ways to deal with the issues of the relationship, but in an unhealthy manor. Maybe they just needed some time apart, but were still together, but then it all changed for him and he couldn't stand it and started fooling around.
It's not about guilt though, he had some problems and just delt with them by himself.
The strongest line, "And I know that you called because you never even knew that it was hurting me" she never knew or maybe never cared how much the separation was hurting him, since he had to deal with it by himself, he would love to stay, thats what he wanted all along, but he cant because... He wants her to help him with his issues, to have her understand, but he knows if he tries to "stay" maybe the night, maybe in the relationship, he would end up bringing up the problems he was having and she would have had enough of him.
"Sometimes people get tired and i woke up a little to late to lie" He could have delt with this the same as he always has, lie about it, cover it up, pretend like he is okay but this time it got too far and he started to show.

"When the glove is on the other hand" could be because the child is living with his mother so he only really sees her side of the story, making the father look like a deadbeat. you can't compleatly understand someone else s problems unless you have lived though them, especially if they never talk about it.

"Ill tell you what you want to know
but boy you better listen close"
The kid is the one who brought it up, he asked why he couldn't stay. This brings up all his problems and he says all the things hes been wanting to say to the woman that caused all of the problems.

I have a tendency to see what i want to see in songs, i adapt them into my own life, but this one seems to work pretty well. anything to add?

General CommentIt DOES say "That you CALLED because you never even knew that it was hurting me." even though it doesn't make sence it's very clear thet he says that.

But I think that this song is about a father who's leaving or divorcing the boy's/his sons mother cause he's been fooling around(cheating on her).
But the father still loves her and he says "and all of this has got nothing to do with you". cause his son needs to know that he's not leaving beacause of him(the son), that it's not his fault at all.

General CommentI'm going to right my first impressions without reading anyone else's meaning first.
I see it as a man who has possibly had an affair with a woman, and he is addressing the child that was born of it.

"That woman's on my back again.
I know she's got the best intention"

that's either the mother of the child or his other lover who is pressuring him to stick to someone or possibly to support the child

    "When you began to relize
You know, got your daddy's eyes."
talking about how the child may eventually realise he takes after his father, the persona of the song

"And there's something I wanna say:
    I love her too.
And all of this has got nothing to do with you.
And I'd like to stay but I can't because I've been fooling around"

he loves the mother of the child, but he needs to take responsibility for his actions now and he can't support this child or the woman, and its not to do with the child, its to do with the persona and how hes acted. he wishes he could be with them but he can't

"And I know that you called because you never even knew that it was hurting me"
this sounds like the child has made contact with the persona and he doesn't realise how much the persona's been feeling guilty about not being there for this child, the child doesn't understand the implications at the moment

"Sometimes PEOPLE GET TIRED" [i believe is the correct lyrics]
And I woke up a little too late to lie"

he can't pretend this hasn't happened anymore, and he can't lie to the child and pretend it's all alright
he's weary of living a lie.

    i hope this helps :)

My InterpretationI think this is obviously about an ilagitamite child not just a divorce or break up, I can't decide exactly which woman or child he is referring to in the song though. I think though it's about a man who has a normal life with a wife but his marriage got stale and they grew apart so he started having an affair which ended in the other woman getting pregnant, I think his wife found him cheating red handed " I got up a little too late to lie" I think its either this way round and he stays with his wife and the boy he is talking to is his illigitite child or its the other way round where he leaves his wife and child for the other woman can't quite decide

I'll tell you what you wanna know
But boy, you better listen close.
    People gonna tell you lies
Don't let it comes as a surprise. - this bit makes me think hes talking to his illigitamite child because other kids will say the man is not his dad
That woman's on my back again. - his marriage is going bad she is nagging which drove him to an affair
I know she's got the best intention - he feels bad about feeling that way about his wife
    When you began to relize
You know, got your daddy's eyes

And there's something I wanna say:
I love her too. - loves the other woman too although this makes me think hes talking to his wifes child because he is saying although he loves the child he loves this other woman and his other child too
And all of this has got nothing to do with you - the affair and him leaving has nothing to do with his son because he still loves him
And I'd like to stay but I can't because I've been fooling around - leaving for th other woman
And I know that you called because you never even knew that it was hurting me
When you put it on the other hand.
    You're old enough to understand
That glove will bring it all the light - seeing it from my view will make sense of it
I didn't say that made it right. when your older you will realise marriage and relatipnships aren't simple and you will understand why i am leaving even though that doesnt make what i'm going right

Sometimes people get tird, sometimes marriages doon't always last and people fall out of love
And I woke up a little too late to lie phe got caught cheating red handed
And dreams should last a long time marriages are a dream of a life and they should last but people fall out of love and marriages fail
This is not what I'd call goodbye he will still see his son

now i've gone through it all i think he is talking to his legitamite son with his wife who he has fallen out of love with and has been having an affair with another woman who i think he has gotten pregnant because of the emphasis on children in the song because its called daddys eyes. he is telling his son the truth that he is leaving the sons mum (his wife) for another woman and he wants to tell him properly because there are rumours going round. He doesn't love his wife anymore because sometimes relationships fail and people give each other too much grief etc he got tired and had an affair and how he has to leave because she caugh him and he has been fooling around. I think his son is quite young and is mad and called him and shouted at him because he doesnt think he cares but his son is too young to relate to relationships and although he loves his son he lovs the other woman too. to me tht makes perfet sense
