"Chapter 13" as written by Mark Hoppus and Travis L. Barker....
And we both take our revenge
But we still don't feel any better
And we'll both take our revenge
But we still won't feel any better

My heart aches from this news
Like your footsteps in crowded rooms
Feel the sweet scents of autumn blooms
Is it what you imagined?

Caught your glimpse from an empty stare
Hidden eyes behind your auburn hair
Catch my breath for the smoke to clear
And its just as it should be

We'll build and break your armor
Guilty hands
Tear my whole world apart
My minds racing
She's softly dreaming
She's scraped and sober
But there's no one listening

We'll wake up in vacant rooms
Pull you close to my aching skin
Broken glass on the porcelain
Is it what you imagined

We'll forget what we used to say
And our lives won't mean anything
Pull me close as I drift away
And its just as it should be

We'll build and break your armor
Guilty hands
Tear my whole world apart
My minds racing
She's softly dreaming
She's scraped and sober
But there's no one listening

And we both take our revenge
But we still don't feel any better
And we'll both take our revenge
But we still won't feel any better

I'm scraped and sober but there's no one listening

I'm scraped and sober but there's no on listening to me at all

    General CommentThe chorus lyrics are

    My best laid plans
Will build & break your heart
    Her guilty hands
    Tear my whole world apart
    My mind is racing
    She's softly dreaming
    I'm scraped & sober
    But there's no one listening

And my heart hangs from this noose
Like your footsteps in crowded rooms
Filled with sweet scents of autumn blooms
    Is this what you imagine?

Catch my breath for the smoke to clear
And it's just as it should be

My best-laid plans wilil build and break your heart
Her guilty hands tear my whole world apart
    My mind keeps racing
    She's softly dreaming
I'm scraped and sober but there's no one listening

And we'll wake up in vacant rooms
Pull you close to my aching skin
    Broken glass on the porcelain

General CommentWhen he mentions, 'I'm scraped and sober, but there's no one listening to me at all', it got me thinking about the Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step recovery program. These alcoholics go through all these steps and emerge out of rehab and then what? Chapter 13...life moves on. What does an addict do when he's supposedly 'cured' of his addiction? How disheartened would you feel if you recovered from something like alcoholism or drug addiction, and no one was there to support you or to hear how well you're doing now that you've kicked the habit?

I haven't checked this idea with all of the lyrics, but I thought it was a point worth bringing up :)

General CommentOh and I just looked up "broken glass on porcelain" on Google and found that porcelain is used to break glass when breaking into cars and what-not.

General CommentThe best song on the whole damn album. Structurually it is so fucking awesome. Fact: Travis recorded the drums to this song in one take.

According to Mark, the name comes from Dante's Inferno's Chapter XIII, about suicide. The song itself is supposed to be a bout a guy seeing a beautiful girl and then going to a hotel room and commiting suicide.

Who cares, the song is great.
