"Golden cage" as written by Erlend Otre Oeye, Marcin Tadeusz Oez and Sebastian Maschat....
So you no longer care if there's another day
I guess I have been there, I guess I am there now
You knew what you wanted and you fought so hard
Just to find yourself sitting in a golden cage
In a golden cage

So of course I miss you and miss you bad
But I also felt this way when I was still with you
Yes of course I miss you and miss you bad
But I also felt this way when I was still with you

This city's no longer mine
There's sadness written on every corner
Each lover was made to sign
Now I hear them calling me over and over

General CommentThe Whitest Boy Alive - Golden Cage

Judging by the lyrics and the mood of the song, the singer lost his significant other.

[So you no longer care if there's another day
I guess I have been there, I guess I am there now
You knew what you wanted and you fought so hard
Just to find yourself sitting in a golden cage
    In a golden cage]

Apparently both the singer and his ex are feeling down; every passing day just seems mundane. They fought hard for their relationship, but in the end it didn't work out. The golden cage might represent the fact that they can never be together.

[So of course I miss you and miss you bad
But I also felt this way when I was still with you
Yes of course I miss you and miss you bad
But I also felt this way when I was still with you]

He's saying he misses his ex, but even when they were together, he still felt like he was missing her. This could mean that she grew distant during their relationship. It could also mean that their relationship was growing into an obsesssion; he missed her even when she was there right next to him and never felt like he spent enough time with her.

    [This city's no longer mine
There's sadness written on every corner
Each lover was made to sign
Now I hear them calling me over and over]

The city seems like a sad place to him now because it is a lonely place without his significant other. He made a nice metaphor, saying sadness was written on every corner. Other people were going through heartache just like him, and it was time for him to finally give in and join them in their loneliness.

General CommentThis song to me is about a shitty relationship. The one where you fall for so hard for that one person, then next thing you know everything is shitty..person treats you like shit..no matter how hard you try to make things work they just don't work. you want to leave but you're stuck because you love that person so much you don't want to give up (golden cage).

"Yes of course I miss you and miss you bad
But I also felt this way when I was still with you"
You miss that person when you try to leave but when you were with them you miss what things use to be like.

    "This city's no longer mine
There's sadness written on every corner"
the way you felt on top of the world when you were in love..

General Commentthis song is about a man who worked very hard all his life and got everything he wanted.
someday he realizes that he missed his life somewhere... and he thinks that now he is in a golden cage...

That's why he started not to care about anything... He noticed that the meaning of his life was his girl friend that he left behind to follow his dreams. He missed her so much.

The city only reminded him the sadness... He thought about returning back to old city... city of love... let's call it Istanbul...

General CommentI think it has something do to with succes in life/work. The person in this song worked so hard, and got everything he wants, except the girl that he has falling in love with. I think the golden cage reffers to the person and the outside world. The gold looks nice but he doens't have contact with the outside world, the price that he had the pay to reach his succes in work.

General Commentyes i agree that this is more about success in life/work than suicide or anything else mentioned before. the lines "of course i miss you and i miss you bad/but i also felt this way when i was with you" maybe points to the fact that the person who the song about was never around during the relationship that much because of work commitments, and maybe that was one of the big factors that caused the relationship to fail...they picked their work/success over the one who loved them.

General CommentI feel like this song is about an apprehensive mood people just sometimes fall into..
"see i miss you and I miss you bad, but I also felt this way when I was still with you"
Sometimes when you meet a new girl or are in a new relationship, you start caring for another and it can be dangerous because sometimes you wont see yourself slipping away from your center

    "the cities no longer mine"
Like meaning is all tied up in thoughts of a girl, and not about enjoying life just as it is, for the real reason your hear.

Check out the Fred Falke Remix, I personally think its better then the original

I know I might not have the most grammatical way of putting things, but feelings aren't about rules, sometimes not even about your brain, rather your heart, soul, love..

General Commentthis is such a great song for so many reasons. to suggest that suicide plays a significant part of the meaning is a rather blunt and inconclusive determination, rather, "so you no longer care if theres another day, i guess i have been there- i guess i am there now" is used to show how one has made it through various hardships/lessons littered with adversity. also, the key words that are the backbone of the song in its entirety are, no surprise here, Golden Cage. This is such a great phrase that I refer to in my though process all the time, as the two words comprising it completely contradict each other in every aspect of the word irony. In essence, "Golden" represents the ideal side of positive perspective. However, when one envisions their life as simply Golden, without any Hardships, they are only living an illusory lifestyle, bound to be disrupted by something negative. Therefore, you are placing yourself in a cage, and while you're at it might as well be strapping a time bomb to your chest. You need a balance of good/negative in your life to maintain strength and knowledge. So it's sort of like a life lesson that is being taught here.

Song Meaningthe meaning of the idiom golden (gilded) cage is: In a pleasant situation but suffering a loss of freedom. I found this very interesting.

General Commenti think this song is about suicide
[so you no longer care if its another day]
the perosn who commited suicide worked hard for nothing
[you knew what you wanted and fought so hard]
i think our soul is stuck in our body-a golden cage
the person commited suicide and they are sad
[but of course i miss you and miss you bad]
they feel lonely and i get the feeling the person was thier bff
[this city is no longer mine]
i.e they have no one to drive around and do shit with
