Ask yourself, What do you think about us?
I was in the station working on something for us.

You say your empty mind is easy when it's drugged.
I watched you fall out of bed and scrape up your back. Well, maybe this life is like the drug.
This life is like the drug.

Ask yourself.
What do they say about us?
I was in the station cooking up something for us.

You say your empty mind is easy when it's drugged.
I watched you fall out of bed and scrape up your back. Well, maybe this life is like your bed.
This life is like your bed.

I've seen you fall between everywhere we go.
They want to love you, baby, more than you know.
I've seen the storm inside you all through the day.
I know it never leaves you not in that way.

(Yeah)

I've seen your empty mind is easy when it's drugged.
I've watched you fall out of bed and then scrape up your back.
Well, maybe this life is like your head.
This life is like your head.
This life is like your head.

Ask yourself.
Ask yourself.
Yeah, ask yourself.

General CommentAwesome song - Dave Grohl plays drums.

Pete released it as the first single off of NIGHTCRAWLER.

General CommentSeems like a plead to a girl who's screwed up and he's saying "Hey I'm here for you".

General CommentGreat artist... great song. I think it's a statement to somebody that people like you, even if you're not using. Lyrically, probably not his best.

General Commentwhen it says 'life is like your head' and he's referring to it being empty...that's a cool line. and i like the way he sings 'ask yourself!' several times in a row...it's a candid song.

General CommentFirst time I've read the lyrics, and heard the song!

It seems like this guy, is into someone, really deeply or something.. And he wants her to see that. But something, drugs, is stopping her.

I get the vibe that this girl he is singing to, uses drugs or w/e to keep away from reality. He just wants her eyes to open so that she can see what around her.

"I've seen you fall between everywhere we go.
They want to love you, baby, more than you know.
I've seen the storm inside you all through the day.
I know it never leaves you not in that way."

He knows what she is without the drugs, and so does everybody else. They all want to know her, and they all seem to like her. But she's blinded, and doesn't see that.

I could be totally off with this, but this what I'm getting out of it.

General CommentFunny how everyone maps it to be Pete singing to a woman, or someone he was sexually involved with...i always took it more in a male communication way. As in, a friend, buddy, someone he cared for- who is bogged down, lost, all fucked up (not necessarily addiction issues, but definitely using something to numb out). Perhaps someone else in his circle of friends from a similar background, or just experiencing new found "celebrity" in whatever dose or way. Someone struggling with the issues of identity that the false idolatry and worship of celebritydom brings about...but, that is just my take on it, sitting here listening to the album again. Can't wait for Back & Fourth release! YES

General CommentI agree with the last comment. This doesn't appear to be written about a girl; there's just no hint of sexuality in the song to suggest it. I see it as a friend either feeling depressed or suffering from drug addiction, albeit the two tend to walk hand in hand.
