Masking identity
Lost in a memory
Of how it used to be
Anonymous
Set in the dark of night
In the shadow of a streetlight
Uncover your role tonight
Anonymous

We are anonymous (Anonymous...)
We are anonymous (Anonymous...)
We are anonymous (Anonymous...)

You were in the danger zone
I saw it in the telephone
Always like the seeds we've sown
Anonymous
What do they think of this
Can we survive the test
Living like all the rest
Anonymous

We are anonymous (Anonymous...)
We are anonymous (Anonymous...)
We are anonymous (Anonymous...)

They've got your number
You're undercover
Try to remember your name

Unmaksing identity
In search of a memory
Of how it used to be
Anonymous
Sit in the dark of night
Just a shadow in the moonlight
Is there no wrong or right
Anonymous

We are anonymous (Anonymous...)
We are anonymous (Anonymous...)
We are anonymous (Anonymous...)

General CommentFirstly, I'm uncertain as to the lyric, "You were in the danger zone / I saw it in the telephone". It was transcribed by ear from a really old cassette recording, and this was the best I was able to get out of it. If anyone has the liner notes, corrections would be appreciated.

Moving on: I'm not entirely certain as to the lyrics' meaning. I get the impression it's about prostitution ("Set in the dark of night / In the shadow of a streetlight / Uncover your role tonight /Anonymous"), but given the singer's background find this to be something of a stretch. Either way, it's a rather atmospheric song given how most early-'80s synthpop tends to come across, and both the lyrics and vocals add to its atmosphere - secretive yet slightly wistful.
