I was seven years old when I watched the world fall down
I can’t remember but I like the way it sounds
I never realized that kids like me grow up in war
so I thought my life was hard until you told me yours
and if the sky should fall and break you up while it hits the ground
you wont ever let life go
wont ever let you go,
just follow the lights home

My father sings to me,
tucks me in at night.
Your father died for you so you could stay alive
and I’m so scared to say that we're the same in every way except one
I was born in peace and you under the gun.
and if the sky should fall and break you up while it hits the ground
you wont ever let life go
wont ever let you go,
just follow the lights home

And a child of seven years should never have to see
their world come crashing down to wither at their feet.
And me and my self centered little world cannot comprehend the truth
that I cant live through what you have
and I could have been you.
and if the sky should fall and break you up while it hits the ground
you won't ever let life go
wont ever let you go,
just follow the lights home

And if the sky should fall and break you up while it hits the ground
you wont ever let life go
wont ever let you go,
just follow the lights home

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
