"Windows And Doorways" as written by and Michael Kinsella....
Bad backs and hardwood floors
I'm so sick of waking up sore
Not knowing where I am
And this was a lot of fun
When the music meant something to someone
That didn't have a girlfriend
Well somehow, getting out the same way that the earth moves around the sun
I won't stray too far, or be gone too long

windows and doorways, I don't know which way
To leave this room because I'm afraid of heights
And I'm afraid of you tonight
Those striped socks and punk rock pajamas
Some ways I changed, in most ways I'm the same

for better or worse I can't say
Only time will tell
Like an addict, I'm cursed in a good way
I've done it so long and I'm not sure how not to

the same way that the earth moves around the sun will be gravity
Pulls on everyone
Dead beats and dead friends
My god, when will it end?

General Commentthis song is about being in a band, obviously. but at the same time, it's a commentary on the music scene today.

And this was a lot more fun when the music meant something to someone
    >>he's saying that back in his early days (circa mike in the 90's), punk meant more to people, and that it wasn't a "fashion trend" if you will.

    General Commentalso the line:

And I'm afraid of you tonight,
Those striped socks and punk rock pajamas.
    >>another fashion commentary (which is probably directed at a lot of his fans.) he's noting that punk has lost some of it's honesty in the fact that it's being manufactured into sleepwear. but, despite all of this, he still can't get away from it because it is what he loves doing.

General Commentan ode to how the "music scene," if you will, is constantly evolving, yet at the same, remains the same at its core ("The same way the earth moves around the sun. The weight of gravity pulls on everyone.") i would imagine the line, "and i'm afraid of you tonight, those striped socks and punk rock pajamas," is speaking to the anxiety a musician experiences when performing for people who are likely to form a strong opinion (judgment) about their creation.

General CommentThis is such a good song. It's actually better live in my opinion.

It has such a sad sad feel to it, but it's not about a girl, I find that interesting.

General CommentDoes anyone think this song could have a parallel meaning? In addition to possible meaning of wanting to get of
the music scene crap, maybe he's also talking about a relationship?

The more I listen to it the more I think so.

General CommentI think like all music that it has the artist's meaning and then the listener's meaning. Music means something different to everyone.
