don't get me wrong.
i appreciate the appreciation but don't mistake my gratitude for half-heartedness
i'm not shouting these words out for nothing now.
i still feel like there's nobody listening in an empty room full of people.
i hope these walls have ears they'll be the only one i'll ever get to.
they all love to listen to the pretty music
but nobody hears my therapy bled upon this paper.
it translates only to...when all this is done and recorded
please don't say it was wasted on you in vain.
i'd rather you just hit stop right now and walk away
you don't hear a single thing that i say.
what's the difference when you don't read there's a lesson to be learned.
PAY ATTENTION! no this song isn't about my ex girlfriend,
didn't i just say to pay attention?
they all love to listen to the pretty music
but nobody hears my therapy bled upon this paper.
it translates only to a catchy tune to you but i'm glad you're enjoying yourselves.
you fake like you know it so well so tell me what this song is about.
maybe girls? maybe god? maybe how well all moved on and all sold out?
i just want you all to know just how very wrong everyone of you are.
the substance is there and it isn't hard to decode.
we never said we said it best our lyrics are undressed.
we never wrote them to impress anybody. the point is this.
we've got something to say and we'll go wherever to say it.
and that is so much more than any of you can say for yourselves.
we're calling you out to call you in. so here's a second chance.
we can take this line by line and we won't second guess.
to accept is to not except a hand from anyone.
so what are you going to do now?
you're searching. reaching out there's not enough to get you through.
no turning back you've got to take this, you must face this alone.

General Commentthis song is about how everyone seems to misinterpret SYG's lyrics to be about girls and relationship problems, most specifically (or so i read) about their song 'Latchkey'.

General CommentI don't think this is specifically about their fans. It's just about music fans in general - if you go throughout this site especially, you will find a 'relationship' theory for a lot of songs that have nothing to do with that at all. It's just a simple fact of music interpretation. There are a lot of people that go to shows and sing along without ever thinking about what the song is truly about. For people who actually consider alternate song meanings or write songs, it can be really frustrating when others take the song at face value. This song is just about expressing that frustration.

General Commenti think this is abit a) assuming and b) arrogant. yeah i love this band but they are underestamating their fans and in a way degrading themselves by incinuating that they have ignorant fans.

General CommentI think it's about how when trying to figure out what songs mean in general people are wrong and don't know what the person was actually trying to say when they wrote it.

General Commentwhen i saw set your goals live they intro'd this song by saying explaining it.
this song is about how band these days write about stupid stuff like girlfriends and themselves but do not see the bigger picture in the also is saying that to everyone a song can mean different things.

saying that SYG have totally sold out now,too much hype i guess

General Commentthis song is pretty straight forward, its about misinterpreting (sp?) song lyrics.

i read in an interview that a few girls went up to matt and said thanks, and that they understood latch key because they were going through problems with their boyfriends, even though that song is about his father. and i've read the comments on that song, and people there are also misinterpreting the words.

i also read in an interview that they make it more ... "melodic" throughout the song so people start to pay attention to the words while they're singing them. like at first its really fast and upbeat but as it nears the end, its more catchy.

General Commenti think this song is about getting the message out. like getting important messages out but no one really listens they just to the beat.

like how people listen to music good beats but horrable messaeges
and i think this song is about how when the song actually has a message
    a good one
everyone has trained themselves to not listen to the words

General CommentThis song is about how people misinterpreted the song "Latch Key", which is written by Matt about having a bad relationship with his family...but everyone came up to him and thought the song was about a girl.

    General CommentI think it's funny
I heard this song on someones Myspace profile and I couldn't understand the words, so I rush over here to read them and the song is about how no one cares about the words.
Either they were wrong or I'm special.

General CommentI'm really glad that SYG wrote this. I may not be as famous as them, but I'm a lyricist and I know how difficult it is to have people understand your songs. Lyrics can speak so much and you can fit so much emotion into them with just a couple of verses. You want to speak your mind and change lives (through music) but then you have members of society that don't even get what your trying to say. They'll be like "Yeah! This song rocks!" But does it really? Do they honestly get what's going on? That's the bad thing about art and people. No one will ever fully understand the mind of an artist.
