"On Top Of The World" as written by and Martin Johnson....
Look up, the stars are fading
And I am still here waiting to see you again
Be with you my friend
When the moon is gone forever
I hope you're up there somewhere, I'll see you again
Be with you my friend

Cause all the roads they lead to where you are
And all the streetlights shine like they were stars
That's where you are

Let's spend tonight on top of the world
And we can do anything
We can be anything
I'll meet you tonight on top of the world
As real as it seems
You're only in my dreams

Look out across the water
Faces of lonely daughters and mothers who care
But just can't be there
Swear that I will see you someday
I have to find a way To show you I care
Even if you're not there

So I'm following the road to where you are
(Meet you tonight on top of)
The streetlights they will guide me to the stars
That's where you are

Let's spend tonight on top of the world
And we can do anything
We can be anything
I'll meet you tonight on top of the world
As real as it seems
You're only in my dreams

My heart is empty without you
Sometimes you don't know what to do
And I need you tonight
I'll fall asleep and it's alright
Close my eyes and I'll be by your side

Let's spend tonight on top of the world
And we can do anything
We can be anything
I'll meet you tonight on top of the world
As real as it seems
You're only in my dreams

Let's spend tonight on top of the world
(On top of the world)
As real as it seems
You're only in my dreams

General CommentI think its about a close friend, or a family member that died and hes talking about seeing him/her again in heaven.

General Commentyeah i agree with 'aidthemartyr'. or you can say 'on top of the world' can be anything. like maybe college, and the person who is left behind has road leading to the same place as the person who left. when it says 'So I'm following the road to where you are' or it could mean the whole death thing.

General Commentmartin, the lead singer said that this song was written about his mom whom he lost to cancer when he was 16.

General Commentwow thats so sad.. yeah when i first heard it i thought it was like a romance song.. but after REALLY listening to it.. it came to me that it was probably a family member or close friend that he couldnt see in real life, becasue of some kind of death.. my friend Alyssa died 2 weeks ago from cancer and the last time i saw her alive i told her about this song.. so it completely reminds me of her. great song, brings me to tears.

yah it's definitely about someone dying(in this case his mom)and that he's promising her that they'll meet in heaven.

General Commentyes, when i first listened to this, i thought that it was about the death of a loved one immediately.
i think that it's about losing someone and then just having to believe they're there, pretending to talk to them, be with them. i think the road, [i'm following the road to where you are, streetlights] represents the road of life, the stars are heaven/the afterlife. so he'll eventually die and see his loved one again.

really, his mom died of cancer?
