"Cherry Area" as written by and Stephen Malkmus....
Hey, you need an A for effort
But I give you a be for delivery, my friend
You are too late and I need to es-cape
To my private apartment
And my gross, gross television set

It's new and it's current
It's got blue and it's currant
is hot special, special director's cut
Just for you my friend of friends

Blasted concept and my cherry area
Is just a little scary to be around right now
So keep away my friend
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
Watch that hand my friend
You're in a sac-red environment
You're in a sac-red environment, oh whoa
I need to go
I need to go
I need to

My InterpretationI believe this song is about a young woman, and sung from her perspective. A "cherry area" could be interpreted as a vagina. I also think it goes "It's new and it's current, it's got news, and it's current is hot" - a typical malkmus wordplay. Even the way he's singing it sounds very effeminate. It seems like the boyfriend/lover/stranger has come to her apartment too late, she's too drunk or tired and tries to entertain him with her gross tv and directors cut film, but when he tries to put the moves on she denies him, saying her "cherry area is a little scary to be around right now". He tries anyway, but is denied again, and then the perspective finally switches to his at the end, where he repeats "I need to go".

    Awesome song.
