"You Belong to Me" as written by and Keith Slettedahl....
I treat it like a high school dance
waiting in the wings for my big chance
but I would only stare at my shoes
you belong to me I belong to you.

I could tell an antique lie
full of all the things I want to hide
but that would only lead to the truth
you belong to me I belong to you.

But I'm lazy and I'll pull you down
where you won't want to be
and I'm tasting what's pouring out of you.
What am I supposed to do?

I could play a trick so strange
cover up my ears and pray for rain
but that would only give you the blues
you belong to me I belong to you.

But I'm lazy and I'll pull you down
where you won't want to be
and I'm tasting what's pouring out of you.
What am I supposed to do?

I treat it like a high school dance
waiting in the wings for my big chance
but I would only stare at my shoes
you belong to me I belong to you.
You belong to me, I belong to you
You belong to me, I belong to you.

General CommentI love the finite-ness of the chorus "You belong to me/ I belong to you." The goal and the end result is final. It's the road there that is unclear and what is conveyed in the verses. The narrator can't get past himself and his insecurities to get there. To that truth. Where it is no longer words but actual, tactual, truth.

General CommentThere's a lot of this song I don't understand. Like why he would say he's just insecure and not going after what he wants, yet he and this girl belong to each other anyway? and the tasting line confuses me to no end.
