"upgrade^brigade" as written by and Andrew/campbell Sudderth....
Glow, but don't shine
A fuse for a blueprint, devices my hands built
Fought for these roads
Walked the rain in my raincoat
Drown in the flash flood

For we are alive
Give, givin' in, not used to Al Fresco
Does the sun know...

[Chorus:]
Today I forgot the zeros and ones?
Told you to conquer the rush
Sunday I remembered paper beats rock
Reached a mile high if I reached a foot

Leop-leopard skin is not above or beyond
No more a prince than a frog is
Fought for these roads
Not a check or a litmus
Taken bites to avenge us

For we are alive
Give, givin' in, not used to Al Fresco
Does the sun know...

[Chorus]

I'm figuring out the one thing he's not
Is above or beyond
And no one's packing up, taking off
Or waving goodbye for me all alone

[Chorus]

Yeah

General CommentOk, i think I've finally put a semblance of a theory together. Again, i think this has to do with the natural vs the man-made. but i take back what i said about it being from two different points of view. I think darroh takes the side of nature.

    "Glow, but don't shine"
While this line could be interpreted many different ways, i think it is referring to technological advancement. Darroh is saying not to go over-board with scientific advancement, as the line between what is right and wrong, moral and immoral is blurring with things like cloning and designer drugs.

"A fuse for a blue-print, devices my hands built"
This is talking about how people give resources and money towards theories and plans (in this case, i think he means fuse in the sense of a countdown), and all these things are man-made and have no element of nature in them.

"For these roads want the rain in my raincoat, drown in a flash flood"
I think by roads he means society and modern technology, as they are building roads to everywhere on the globe. And these "roads" want everything form him, (the rain from his raincoat), so he'll give them what they ask for, and more, (and drown them in a flash flood).

    "For we are alive"
Here Darroh brings in the human element. He says that we can fight this; that we are not robots. We are alive. (also, i love how in live shows he makes the crowd proclaim that they are alive)

"Give, given air. Not used to alfresco"
He wants to give all these people trapped by technology "air", as in nature. But they are not used to it. (Alfresco means outside)

    "Does the sun know?"
As many other people think, i also surmise that this is a play on the word sun and son. He is asking if nature knows that all this is going on around them. The sun is basically the center of nature. Without it, there probably would be no living organisms on this planet, and people usually think that nature opposes science. Also, he probably is referring to Jesus as the "son", but he is not singling out Christianity. He is just using Jesus as the figure-head of religion in general, because religion also usually opposes Science (case in point- Creationists).

"Today, I forgot the zeros and ones, I told you to conquer the rush"
He says that today, he forgot all the things that society tells him to use, such as cell-phones and computers, and realized he is human. Not sure what "told you to conquer the rush" means though.

"Sunday, i remembered paper beats rock. Reached a mile high if i reached a foot"
I think here, he is just restating that he realizes that he is "alive" or a human, but using religion as an example, as Sunday is the day of rest. "Reached a mile high if i reached a foot" means that, while this is a small achievement, it goes a long way in a world like today's.

"Leopard skin is not above or beyond, no more a prince then a frog is."
This may sound silly, but i think leopard skin is being used to represent the artificial here. You always see leopard skinned rugs, or leopard skinned hats, and its become artificial and man-made. So Darroh is saying that the artificial is not better then nature, and we should not treat it as such.

"For these roads should not have shed for a witness, taken bites to avenge us"
Im not entirely sure, but i think he is saying that the "roads" should not have something else that is artificial as proof, (im not sure how artificial sheds are, but yeah, ill just roll with it). And perhaps, nature is taking it's revenge, here shown by the leopards biting back for making their skin something it's not; a decoration.

    (chorus)

I'm going to add in the line that they use in some live versions, because i think it further backs up my theory.

"Here is the picture you asked for it, here is the equation it's matched, I'll have nothing to do with it"
Here he shows his disdain for modern technology. He shows that he's been used, and they made him do something he didn't want to. And he gives it to them, but not without scorn, and he says he wants no part of it.

"I'm figuring out, the one thing he's not, is above and beyond"
He is realizing that technology and science is not infallible, and it can be wrong.

"And no one's packing up, taking off, or waving good-bye. For we are alive."
And Darroh says that at least humanity hasn't accepted it full, and said good-bye to nature, because we are "alive."

    (chorus)

General Commentim not sure what the whole song is about, but the he is nor more a prince then a frog is as if he is stating someone he likes is getting involved with some one that she feels is her "prince charming" when in his reality he is her "prince charming". great song

General CommentI believe its about Jesus (and no I'm not one of those overly religious people that look for God in everything), but just hear me out.

    "Glow but don't shine
A fuse for a blueprint, devices my hands built.
For these roads want the rain and my raincoat,
    drown in the flash flood."

Talking to Jesus "Glow but don't Shine" meaning go tell them about me but don't force them too. 'For these roads want the rain and my raincoat,
drown in the flash flood." Meaning there are to many sinners and I don't want to flood the world again.

    "For we are alive,
given air and not used to Al Fresco.
Does the sun know today I forgot the zeros and ones?" Possibly talking about a job he gets stuck at "forgetting the zeros and ones" not remembering about the Lord and the "Sun/son".

Told you to conquer the rush and on Sunday I remembered paper beats rock.
Reached a mile high if I reached a foot.

"On Sunday i remembered Paper beat Rock" could be the bible. And "Reached a mile high if I reached a foot." Meaning refreshing his belief in God.

"Leopard skin is not above or beyond him, he's no more a prince than a frog is." Talking about Jesus wearing rags and that he could wear anything and its not above him or below him.

"For these roads should not have shed for a witness,
taken bites to avenge us." Talking about Jesus being Crucified and walking himself carrying his own cross to "Avenge" our sins.

    What do you guys think?

General CommentHmm, it's the best idea I've seen. With the crazy lyrics for this song as well as the whole album though, it's tough to say for sure.

    Good effor either way.

General CommentI always thought of this as natural vs. synthetic.
    Paper=synthetic and rock= natural.
He forgot the zeros and one's, as in siding with the natural, then on Sunday, the day of rest...he remembered paper beats rock, or synthetic is better... and the argument goes back and forth the whole song.
Zero's and ones are used in digital imaging which would make sense in the line "Here is the (digital)picture you asked for here is the equation that matched(zeros and ones), I'll have nothing to do with it." That line is only in the live version though
He also makes several references to life which is natural. Thats just my opinion and its not concrete but I think that the general idea of the song has something to do technological advancement over taking the natural things in life.

General Commentwhat about the album art? in the booklet, the picture for this song has a computer with binary on the screen..i tried to use an online translator and it just made gibberish..but also, FtM had a thing on their website where if you translated binary you could listen to a certain song or something, so it feels like there's more to it than just gibberish

General Commentit means no one is better then any one else & don't let them fool you with all their fancy talk or high end things. no matter how mechanical or how rich some one is it makes you know less then them because you know the sting of hard work.

"I'm figuring out the one thing he's not is above or beyond,
And no one's packing up, taking on or making goodbye for me all alone."

& you have to make you're own way.
