Woke up screaming on the Wrong Side of the head!
Dreaming of demons who'd be better off.. better off dead!
Now I know i'm accountable for the things i've said before!
But I just can't shut up and get out the door!

SO LETS SING VOLUMES FOR THE SOULS THAT AREN'T FOR SALE
INDEED LATELY THERE'S BEEN HELL HOUNDS ON MY TRAIL

Woke up screaming on the wrong side of the Zen!
So get up and say the word!
Say the word and i'll be gone!
Say the word and I'll be gone!

Say the word and i'll be gone forever and ever.. (get up, get out)
Singing the good for the bad in the age of the fall
Now the enemy plays for the whole fucking world!

(Solo 1 - Dev/Solo 2 - Jed)

Sooner or later the nights with the satyr
Will bring back the memory
Leaving you money and time

Sweet locomotive with you as the motive
The beauty the agony mixes the honey with grime
Sly imitator the cats in the cradle the dogs in the stable will
Always remain on your mind

Sooner or later it comes to the table reminding them all
That the memory always was mine
Wake up running in the only way I can
This type of dependency turns a boy into a man

Now I know i'm accountable
Now I know I'm responsible
NO PEACE FOR YOU, LITTLE MAN!
Say the word and i'll be gone.
Say the word and i'll be gone!

Say the word and i'll be gone forever and ever (get up, get out)
Singing the good for the bad in the age of the fall
(Singing the good for the bad in the age of the fall)
Singing the good for the bad in the age of the fall
Now the enemy plays for the whole fucking world!

General CommentI am fairly certain this is about how Devin feels about S.Y.L. as a band, before breaking up after this final tour. This song seems to be about the remorse of having to leave it all behind, but his acceptance to do so.

"Woke up screaming on the Wrong Side of the head!
Dreaming of demons who'd be better off.. better off dead!"

If you've ever heard Dev talk about S.Y.L., you know that he had some serious emotional duality about things, hence the separation of all of his 'Devin Townsend' releases versus S.Y.L. This line is simply showing that duality, waking up and having the dark S.Y.L. content that he required him to be in that state to write about it. Much like a method actor.

"Now I know i'm accountable for the things I've said before!
But I just can't shut up and get out the door!"

Understanding that what he has created is his responsibility, but he is reluctant to just leave it all. However its clear another part of him wants to leave it behind, which is shown in other lyrics:

"Say the word and i'll be gone forever and ever.. (get up, get out)
Singing the good for the bad in the age of the fall
Now the enemy plays for the whole fucking world!"

This lyric is simply showing what this final sound of S.Y.L. is meant to be. A final performance of his dark side to finally expel the negative feelings he is haunted with, mixing with S.Y.L.'s ever increasing popularity from album to album.

I'd encourage you guys to keep thinking about the rest of the lyrics that I haven't analyzed in this sense. The lyrical content of this album is quite 'meta' (hate to use that term, but its what applies), and self critical of the band and what it had been and what it was becoming at the time.

General Commentas odd as this may sound, i think it might be about a relationship. and it was a struggle for him to keep it going.

"Now I know i'm accountable for the things i've said before!
But I just can't shut up and get out the door!" he knows what hes said int he past is wrong. he admits it. but he can't just leave. he loves this person. he doesn't want to go.

"SO LETS SING VOLUMES FOR THE SOULS THAT AREN'T FOR SALE" and so hes saying this is like dedicated to all the people who can hold up a relationship because he knows how hard it is to do it. all the souls that are taken; their soul mates; their partners.

"Say the word and i'll be gone!
Say the word and I'll be gone!"
obviously meaning, tell me to leave and i will. even though i don't want to.

"Sooner or later it comes to the table reminding them all
That the memory always was mine"
you know, eventually that whole dinner conversation about like "oh whatever happened to your girlfriend blahblahblah?" you know, just talk you have at the dinner table or anywhere. and it all comes back.

"Wake up running in the only way I can
This type of dependency turns a boy into a man"
and this basically means that now that he's left, he can be a "real man". a man who just wants to get drunk and party. the typical man stereotype, because he doesn't have a woman anymore.

i know it sounds weird because if you know the band, you know devin and hes a maniac but idk, it just fits to me.

General Commentalso, i just found out that a "satyr" is like a companion of Pan who's really good at sex. and he looks like one of them. they're like these bearded long haired things. he looks exactly like one.

General Comment"Sooner or later the nights with the Satyr
    Will bring back the memory
    Leaving you money and time"

This stanza is also in Devin's solo album "Ziltoid the Omniscient" in the song Color Your World. I thought I would just point out that cool little tidbit.

General CommentI'd just like to say this song is amazing. This song made me stand up in awe when the guitar solo came on. That drummer is so badass in this too.
