"Family Values" as written by and John Engelbert....
I had a sister named Emma
Mississippi is a river that floats in the states
Just like the memory and the wisdom of the water
Our souls were connected in so many ways
Even though we haven't talked in a while
I'm still waiting for the day to come when you will arrive
I'm sorry if I ruined happy times we've been through
But know I wonder, if I can spend my days without you and

I had a mother, and her name was Carolina
Carolina is a state in the states
I think there's fifty but there's only one mother
And she won't even look in my face
You know I'd give it all to be loved by you again
But everything's my fault so I carry the blame
But now I'm growing, I get older while the days pass by
Soon I'll be dying thinking you won't even look me in the eyes

And it's sad
So sad
Family values
That we had, it's just a memory
In your mind, we've gone bad
There's no love

I had a father named Mr Engelbert
Engelbert Humperdinck sings really good
I haven't heard him but I hear my fathers voice
It's in the dreams where things are like they should
I miss your love which came naturally
Sometimes I cry, when I think about how things used to be
Well at least come and visit me for only one time
Daddy I love you but I know you won't pay me no mind

And it's sad
So sad
Family values
That we had
It's just a memory in your mind
We've gone bad
There's no love
No no

General Commentgreat song. regarding the meaning of the lyrics I'm confused whether the family members are dead or not.

    "I had a sister..."
    "I had a mother..."
    "I had a father..."
these lines are impying that they're deceased. in that case the song meaning ought to be that you should appreciate your family and take better care of your family members before it's too late.

however, some lines gives me the impression that they're still alive but that they don't wanna see him because of something he's done wrong in the past, which he now regrets.

    "There's no love"
"and she won't even look in my face"
"I'm still waiting for the day to come when you will arrive"
these lines are all implying that the relationship is all screwed up because of him. he want to be a part of the family again, but he's afraid to take the first step.

    any ideas?

General CommentI think he has done something stupid, which made his family really really angry.. so now they don't look at him as a family member, they don't want to have anything to do with him anymore, hence he no longer have a sister, a mother nor a father. My 50cent.

General CommentGreat song! One of the most beautyfull songs i've heard!

I definately think they are still alive but they have rejected him because of something he has done or, what i think, for the way he is.
He is questioning their family values(with all right) and wants them to love him as the way he is.

I'm not sure about this but something that corssed my is that this is related to his sexual preference(i.e. he's gay). I think that's one of the few things that can tear a family apart like this.

General Commentwell, since i heard train song about him growing up with a foster mother, i though that maybe his parents didn't want him (and his sister?) so they left him when he was a child, or something, i don't really know...
