Come closer, love
I can’t hear what you’re saying
Don’t make it easy love
All the corners are fraying
How can I please you, love
When I don’t know what you want?
It’s a nice escape, but will it keep you warm at night?
I don’t think so.

Uuh, how about you tell me what you’re doubting us for?
What is wrong with both feet on this side of the door?
There is no easy way I’ll be the one who stays

Come closer, love
I can’t hear what you’re saying
Don’t make it easy love
All the corners are fraying
How can I please you, love
When I don’t know what you want?
It’s a nice escape, but will it keep you warm at night?
It’s a nice escape, but will it keep you warm at night?
I don’t think so.

You’re so close to me
You’re so far away
I don’t know what you mean
You’re way out of reach
You’re so close to me
You’re so far away

Come closer, love
I can’t hear what you’re saying
Don’t make it easy love
All the corners are fraying
Won’t you come closer, love
I can’t hear what you’re saying
How can I please you, love
When I don’t know what you want?
It’s a nice escape, but will it keep you warm at night?
It’s a nice escape, but will it keep you warm at night?
(I don’t think so)

Give me an invitation more than a guess Give me a sign if only one single breath I'll give you an empty page This is the time and place

What kind of truth lives in the absence of trust? What is the use of holding back on this much? My eyes are open wide Won't you let me inside?

^^^ Those lines are missing from these lyrics, the actual first and second verses of the song.

As for the song and what it means, I believe it's about a couple or two people in any kind of relationship (it could even be particularly one-sided?) where one of them is doubting the feelings of the other to the point of being distant. And, although they may be close physically, their emotions couldn't be more divided at times.

"It's a nice escape, but will it keep you warm at night?", she's saying that keeping in how you truly feel and ignoring it is easy for a while, but it isn't the same as being honest to the one you love.

I relate to it a lot, in fact. Reminds me of a conversation me and another person could very well have, if we haven't already.. oO; I guess it's just one of those situations you leave unspoken.. But I would probably be the closed up person in the song..

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
