"Forget It" as written by Benjamin Burnley, Aaron Fincke, Mark James Klepaski, Jeremy Hummel and William Corgan....
It's a crime you let it happen to me
Never mind, I'll let it happen to you
Out of mind, forget it there's nothing to lose
But my mind and all the things I wanted

Every time, I get it, throw it away
It's a sign, I get it, I wanna stay
By the time I lose it I'm not afraid
I'm alive but I can surely fake it

How can I believe when this cloud hangs over me
You're the part of me that I don't wanna see

Forget it, forget it
Forget it, forget it
Forget it, forget it
Forget it, forget it
Forget it, forget it
Forget it, forget it
Forget it, forget it

There's a place I see you follow me
Just a taste of all that might come to be
I'm alone but holding breath you can breathe
To question every answer counted

Just fade away
Please let me stay
Caught in your way (forget it, forget it, forget it, forget it)

Just fade away
Please let me stay
Caught in your way (forget it, forget it, forget it, forget it)

It's a crime you let it happen to me
I don't mind, I love it, easy to please
Never mind, forget it, just memory
On a page inside a spiral notebook

Just fade away
Please let me stay
Caught in your way
I can live forever here
Just fade away
Please let me stay
Caught in your way
I can live forever here

How can I believe when this cloud hangs over me
You're a part of me that I don't wanna see

I can live forever here

    General CommentOOO OOOO OOOOO!
    LEMME GIVE IT A TRY!
Let's try a new angle. Love song.

It's a crime you let it happen to me
(How could you let me fall in love with you?!?!)
Nevermind, I'll let it happen to you
(Well I guess I did the same to you)
I don't mind, forget it, nothing to lose
But my mind and all things I wanted...
(Well now that you mention it, it's kinda nice, even though you'll probably just make me crazy and in the end break my heart...)

Everytime I get it I throw it away
(Always turn my back on love cause I don't want to get hurt)
    It's a sign, I get it, I wanna stay
    (Not this time)
By the time I lose it, I'm not afraid
    (His mind)

How can I believe when this cloud hangs over me
You're the part of me that I don't wanna see
(Bad relationships. Why should this be any better!)

    Just fade away
    Please let me stay
    Caught in your way
(He doesn't care if he's losing himself he just wants to be happy and love even if just for the time being)

There's a place I see you follow me
Just a taste of all that might come to be
(If we take the risk.. this coulud be great)
I'm alone but holding breath you can breathe
(He wants to share his life with her, not be alone anymore)
    To question every answer counted
    (Suddenly everything is different)

It's a crime you let it happen to me
I don't mind, I love it, easy to please
    Nevermind, forget it, just memories
On a page inside a spiral notebook
(Yes you made me love you, but yes, I love it.)

    I can live forever here
(God I hope this never ends...)

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

keep in mind, music is all aabout interpretation, this song could also be about drugs, but this is what i see in it.

General Commentthe first time I heard this song I was sitting in the back seat of a car, on the way to who knows where, blissfully unaware of everything aournd me and ahead of me...
    but I fell in love...
the entire mood of this song, the music, the lyrics, Ben's voice...it all just made sense to me, for those few minutes everything made sense to me, and I had no clue why.
then I met him, years later. the first day of my sophomore year, I had this song stuck in my head, and it was then that I met him, and everything came together.
to me, this song is about being in love with someone, but just wishing you could "Forget It" and go on living your life as you did before you met that person. "It's a crime" that you love them, but nothing can alter how you feel, and they are the only one you want, and you just cannot have them, no matter what...but...maybe you can one day. so you remain hopeful, "holding breath you can breathe," until you are together.
until then, seeing them...seeing him...is torture. because we're both alone, but cannot be together. and seeing them makes you happy and sad, and "I can live forever here" is stating what will happen..saying I'll live in the balance, "caught in your way," and I can, as long as it takes.
still, in the meantime, it would be amazing if the memories could be wiped away, if I could start over, never meet him...
Because he's so much like me, he is "the part of me that I don't wanna see," but as I said before,
    "I can live forever here..."
but this is only my life, and how the song makes me feel...it's different for everyone

General Commentsaddest song, best song, in history. I could prove it if you could read my mind, but my mind will never be unleashed for the world to see.

General CommentI totally agree with x17xeternelletruthx17x. I myself and going through a very similar situation right now with a guy. And maybe I'm weird, but this song also makes me feel and envision different things in addition to that theory. When he says "You're the part of me that I don't wanna see." I think of one of my friends. We're pretty good friends, but at the same time I feel like we kinda bring out the worst in each other sometimes. And I think we see a lot of each other in each other, so when I'm around her, I see the part of me that I don't like that much. Also, when I hear "How can I believe when this cloud hangs over me, you're the part of me that I don't wanna see." I think of me. I've been battling some depression, self harm, and suicidal thoughts. It's gotten much better the past few months, but sometimes that part of me will come back. So that's the part of me that I don't wanna see. I just want to forget it all and move on. When he says "There's a place I see you follow me. Just a taste of all that might come to be." It's like I see my past and that part of my life following me, and I see what could come to be if that part of me takes over again. This is a very powerful song for me. It reminds me of so many different aspects of my life. And it's a nice mellow side of BB. Very few songs make me feel as much as I do when I hear this one. It's like it makes everything seem so clear. It's a pretty simple song, yet makes you think so much when you hear it. Beautiful!

I think this song can be interpreted in so many ways. (as is the way with most songs) I personally think this is one of BB's best songs. This and Breath are my all time favorites from them. I've listened to this song so many times today. I just keep my i-pod on repeat. And BB is definitely one of my favorite bands. They're very talented. And from what other people have said about the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I am going to go watch that soon. It sounds like a good movie!

General CommentI love this song. The combination of Breaking Benjamin and Billy Corgan make this song perfect. I agree, BB really should make more songs like this along with their normal sounding songs.

General CommentWow, I had no idea that Billy Corgan co-wrote this song.
No wonder I loved it when I first heard it.
And that it's about wanting to erase someone's memory so that they can forget the love they have for another one.
I haven't seen the movie, but I can imagine that it doesn't quite work out.
You can erase memories, but the heart can't be fooled.
Now that I know what the movie is about, I want to watch it.

General CommentQuoted by erinerinerin: This really is an amazing song.
There are countless things it could mean.
but one way to interpret this sentence is:

"How can I believe when this cloud hangs over me
You're the part of me that I don't wanna see.. "

how can he believe it's love when obstacles are coming through in the relationship.
She's part of him and can relate to one part of him, and he doesn't want to see that side of himself,
or she's a part of him because they were so close and he doesn't want to acknowledge she's going away.

    :) maybe, maybe.

    My answer:

its just saying that he doesn't want to admit that shes the reason for him being crushed. it just doesn't seem right to him....the rest of the song is just talking about him forgetting everything. he says forget it in the middle of his verses to alternate between talking about forgetting her, and her forgetting what hes saying...hes confused and DOES NOT want to lose her, even though he knows he has to give up on her.

Great song....BB is simply the greatest band EVER! i've had every album from the minute they released and i wouldn't have it any other way :D

General CommentThis seems like a conversation really. Two people talking back and forth about a relationship with each other that has broken apart.

It's a crime you let it happen to me
Nevermind, I'll let it happen to you
Out of mind, forget it there's nothing to lose
But my mind and all the things I wanted

(This first verse is the person who was hurt. Let’s say it’s a girl for giggles. She is so devastated by what has happened that she considers what was done a crime, and wishes the same hurt on their ex. She keeps trying to push her love out of her mind for fear of going crazy with grief and loss.)

Everytime I get it I throw it away
    It's a sign, I get it, I wanna stay
By the time I lose it I'm not afraid
I'm alive but I can Surely fake it

(This is the one who broke up with the first person. Again let’s say it’s a guy for giggles. He obviously has a history of bad relationships because when he finally meets this girl who could be the one... he gets scared and throws the relationship away. The only thing is, he’s torn. He doesn’t want to throw it away but can’t help it. He wants to stay with her and without her he is miserable at best.)

How can I believe, when this cloud hangs over me,
You're the part of me that I don't wanna see?

    Forget it

(This bit is the both of them. They both are feeling empty without the other and can’t really believe that they don’t want to see each other again... no matter how hard they try. Unfortunately the two of them think it’s too late and just say forget it... better to try and erase memories than keep them and be hurt all over again.)

There's a place I see you following me
Just a taste of all that might come to be
I'm alone but holding breath you can breathe
    To question every answer counted

(This is the both of them retreating into their memories. They are remembering what they wanted to have in their life with each other. They wanted a life with that house and white picket fence. They wanted the careers and kids running around like idiots. They remember that they are a part of each other...Their hearts beat the same rhythm)

    Just fade away
    Please let me stay
    Caught in your way

    Forget it

    Just fade away
    Please let me stay
    Caught in your way
    I could live forever here

(Here they both are pleading with each other... They both are torn between wanting to forget or get back together. They are so in tune with each other that they are continually caught in each other’s mind.)

It's a crime you let it happen to me
Out of mind, I love it, easy to please
Never mind, forget it, just memories
On a page inside a spiral notebook

(I think the girl is an avid writer here. She probably keeps a journal and writes every day. She is cynical right here.. Saying that the break up is easy to deal with if it is out of her mind. She is just dismissing thir time together as scribbles on a page. If they are no more than that.. Why be so upset?)

    Just fade away
    Please let me stay
    Caught in your way
    I can live forever here

    Forget it

How can I believe, when this cloud hangs over me,
You're a part of me that I don't wanna see?

    I can live forever here

( This is the guy ending out the song while engulfed in his memories of the girl. He still doesn’t believe that he wants to be away from her... but feels it’s over and would rather spend his life in his memories rather than truly let this girl go.)

Its a really tragic story to me.... but like someone said before: music is entirely open to suggestion.

General CommentThis song can be interpreted many ways. I think it’s about “Jane”. He loves her and wants to spend the rest of his life with her. She makes him feel that much in love with her that he begs her to let him stay caught in her way. The relationship with Jane is, and I always believed, forbidden in a way for whatever reason. He wants her to fall in love with him too.

It's a crime you let it happen to me (He’s saying it’s basically criminal that she made him fall in love)
Never mind, I'll let it happen to you (He’s wants to make her fall in love with him)
Out of mind, forget it there's nothing to lose (He has nothing to lose)
But my mind and all the things I wanted (Except his sanity and the way he wanted it to be between them)
Every time I get it throw it away (Every time she gives him the chance to get together, he throws away the opportunity. Probably because he’s scared about the way she makes him feel)
It's a sign, I get it, I wanna stay (Ok this is tricky but if you read into the lyrics he’s referring to Jane’s diary. Later in the song he mentions that he’s just a page inside her spiral notebook. He believes Jane is giving him a sign about her affections. In reality Jane might have wrote the diary as a way of coping with life, and never intended for it to be read)
By the time I lose it I'm not afraid of love but I can surely fake it (Love makes you feel crazy sometimes)
How can I believe when this cloud hangs over me (I always thought his relationship with Jane was forbidden in some way. He’s wondering how he can believe in love when he feels guilt, referring to the cloud that hangs over him)
You're the part of me that I don't wanna see (Being with her reminds him of his bad side)
    Forget it
    Forget it
    Forget it
    Forget it
    Forget it
    Forget it
    Forget it
    Forget it
    Forget it
    Forget it
    Forget it
    Forget it
    Forget it
    Forget it (never mind)
There's a place I see you follow me (He wants her to be in his life)
Just a taste of all that might come to be (He sees it so clearly that a part of him believes they’ll eventually work out)
I'm alone but holding breath you can breathe (He’s staying away from her until she’s ready to have him back. He’s giving her room to breathe)
To question every answer counted (He only is giving her room to breathe so she can think. She’s questioning some of the things he said)
Just fade away (Either she is or he is wishing the feelings would go away)
Please let me stay (He’s begging for her to let him stay)
Caught in your way (Even if he isn’t good for her)

General Commenthm...if Corgan did use that movie as an inspiration, then it makes perfect sense that the song "Forget It" is about a very painful relationship that the speaker and his beloved wants to erase from their memories. It is easier if you can forget all the painful memories of somone u love. It's kind of like "i love you so much i hate you, and being with u is killing me but without you i'd die. So let me forget you so i can move on." Life would probably be a breeze if ppl can forget their X's like that hahahaha. sad song =**(.
